I don't know what's wrong. But I am using sify over a router and after every half hour, my net connection goes haywire. I get disconnected. I have to reconnect every time. Also, I don't think I noticed the disconnect every half hour without the router. Strange. I'm in delhi and I wish I had more ISPs to choose from.

You should call up Sify customer care and ask them to disable heartbeating for your account. You can also use the chat page on the customer care home.

do they disable if we say ?? Hmmm then how abt logging in and killing client program to save some ram

I wouldn't recommend killing easy sify as it reconnects when you get logged out.

I talked to someone on the customer care chat page (catherine_p) and got it disabled ... no problem with that

actually I called up customer care and they said they had to disable something called VPN.

If heartbeat is enabled for your account (which it is by default), sify will log you off in 20 minutes or so if it does not receive a hearbeat from you. Now, their default client will send the heartbeat if enabled, but it is unable to receive a response from the server because you are using a router. If it fails to recieve a response, after about 3 tries, it simly stops sending further beats and Sify logs you out in 20 minutes.Simplest thing if you want to continue using the default client with your router setup is to do as ujjwal suggested. Call them up and tell them to disable the heartbeat.IP

VPN = Virtual Private Network. What relation does it have with the Heartbeat service I wonder.

The CTO said he would disable that, and then it worked. I wouldn't know what connection it would have, but it worked.
