What software do you use to convert between different video formats.I want to convert from rm format.I also want to decode divX and xvid

I use mencoder and transcode . Works with just about any video format.

If it comes to converting i trust only Virtual dub .For Rm vdub doesn't support that!Second alternative is Xlisoft products.Checkout there site.

Is there any one program (or two at most) that would let me:
[*]Convert a Divx / Xvid file to a VCD (i.e. when 700Mb or lesser)
[*]Convert a Divx / Xvid file into a DVD (i.e. when greater than 700MB)
[*]Join two Divx / Xvid files (e.g. when a movie is in two parts)
[*]Burn a DVD (or make an iso) that would let me have 3 or 4 such above mentioned video files on the same disc, i.e. will let me make the "Root Menu" of the DVD from Jpegs
In essence I want to do two things:
[*]For video files I don't particularly care for or which are of a lower quality, burn them to a CD-RW or DVD-RW to view them once on a standalone DVD player.
[*]For video files I want to keep long term, burn many of them onto a single DVD-R to view on the TV or on the computer.
trydr divx.really cool soft.if not virtualdub small but powerfull soft@vebmetaltry dvdsantanif u hav lil know how than vegas is the ansu can do many stuff in tht from editin to convertin

dvdsanta is too basic, and too "1 click and you are done" for my liking... I tried it but it would convert each divx file into a 4.something GB vob(dvd) file, even though the original size was a fraction of that.... and moreover, it took 3 hours to do that!!

will try mediacoder once I am don with my exams (tomorrow 🙂).

Would Ulead DVD Movie Factory let me do what I want to dohttp://www.broadbandforum.co/index.php?act=findpost&pid=51741?

MediaCoder

Great find. Thanks. 🙂

ok I am just totally lost in mediacoder... I tried to follow the guide on it's site to convert avi to mpeg2(vob) but firstly, the guide is not well written, and secondly, I get an error message and it doesn't transcode.prathapml, can you give a brief guide in case you have converted from avi to dvd before?

1. No guide reqd2. UI is intuitive - select file, then select the output audio+video codecs to be used (from tabs at the bottom-half of app, only usable codecs will be shown, install K-lite mega codec pack).3. If it errors out, reason is that the relevant codec is not installed for conversion, re-install codec-pack & app carefully (AVI extension could denote just about any format like DivX,Xvid,RMVB,etc).
