Sify claims it is there to protect misuse of online time for users, that the system logs us out after a period of time of inactivity. But it logs us out even when we are online surfing or downloading files. And it is a big issue for you.

What can we do? I have tried my part... Sent mails asking for optional removal of this so called feature... And I think I can do with some help from you guys...

What can we do?

Cheers. This is optional as well... Report if it happens to you to the call center guys and they will disable this for you...

Now, the only grudge left is the always on top broadband icon in spite of the fact that we already have a blinking icon lying in the system tray. It looks bad, comes over my applications and is irritating… I have reported this too and am waiting for a reply on it.

Another very bad thing is that installing the broadband client changed my homepage back to Sify website. This is again a very bad thing to do… Any action taken without user’s approval in my opinion is evil

Auto logoff is optional too… Now the always on top icon

when i run zone alarm firewall with broadband client it loggs me off in 5 mins. but if i close zone alarm if works for fine. I tried put sify router ip address in the trusted list . nothing work . even i saw the Alert and logs list its clean. Even then it dosnt work.by the way i am accessing from bangalore.any of u guys are able to run zone alarm or any other fire wall with broadband client.

well i do not run zonealarm anymore. sify always had some or the other problem with it. my suggestion is, shout at the b*st*rds. they wanted to make ur system secure with their crappy antivirus. tell them you want the firewall working. and get some of their guys to come to ur house and show him your problem.in my current scenario, i get booted out around once every 6-7 hours. the bad thing is that the client shows me logged in... the net just stops working. so i have to manually log out and log in. and looking at the totally unresponsive client that they have for me now, i get logged out of chats, IMs, IRC... that will cost me big some day... s*cks.

I contacted sify Cust. care. They asked me to do some settings on zone alarm it did not worked. so they asked me to call up the CTO. that fellow doesnt know anything more that laying cables. I am still trying to get some one sify to check the matter out.Any way thanks..........

CTOs. i can only laugh... i am scared on moving to linux full time, coz i am sure my CTO wont have even the slightest idea what linux is all about.i would have loved to have a mac... and tell the CTO to configure my network for me... i bet he would have told me to load windows xp on it. 😉

im using zonealarm ..dont have a problem. lol...i think....i havent looked @ it that much actually..sometime si run ZA..sometimes i dont..ill see and check out if it disconnects/me is also from blore 😛

I use zone alarm, and I've even blocked all access to HSBEAT.exe, but it works fine. Though i don't use the sify client all the time. Yesterday or day before, I too was getting disconnected every 5 minutes though i was connecting from the webpage! I guess some prob with sify. And ya, I sure did contact the sify cust care n they told me repeatedly that auto log off is NOT optional.

i've been told that the autologout is not optional either. about za well i am using it and can't use it with the client but it works fine with the webpage login.. can somebody tell me what happens if we shut down the client by using the task manager?? (ctrl+alt+del) do we still get logged out or what?? i think we don't.. so if this is true than we can just login using the client and then close it by using the task manager 😱

oh and one more thing.. people PLEASE use a firewall while using SIFY.. you get attacked from other sify users

I just came home.. 9 hours this thing has been downloading.. got 170MB.. sighZonealarm was on all day no problemWithout zonealarm only people in a LAN can acces ur comp through shared service, netbios, port 139 i believe...
