Most people dont understand how data usage based plans work. Recently, I met a retired government employee who asked me whether he could help him understand these plans. I reccommend, BSNL keep all options open (like sify which has all types of plans) Similar to sify, BSNL must have >Time based plans >Data usage based plans >Pay as you go Data usage plans (say Rs.1 per MB with no monthly commitment) >Pay as you go time based plans with online speed select >Limited unlimited (unlimited but with 150 MB/day guideline >Truly unlimited plans What do you say

well i think they need to have plans as per every price band... starting from 250 going to let's say 1000-1500 bucks.every package should have a minimum guaranteed 256k speed and a minimal download limit. extra usage should not cost more than 5 paisa a meg. maybe, extra usage should cost per hour. that is the best they can do if they want to challenge the domination of private operators.

Time based plans can be dangerous too. End users might turn off the PC and leave moden running.
They might think that they have disconncted from Internet by switching off the PC, while still being charged since modem is on.

are people just going insane or is it just me? :/ I think BSNL should have only one type of plans - Unlimited Usage ( Time / Data ) for a flat fee. No headaches of bills. No headaches of choosing the best plan for you...Recently I came upon an ad by verizon. DSL 786Kbs for Rs.695 ( $14.95 ) or something monthly. I was shocked... Stupid Indian ISPs ripping us off...

Try entring some verizon number and get a quote. I tried that and I got a quote of $25 (if paid monthly) and $22 if paid yearly.
And this quote is ONLY for the first year.

government policies?mtnl gets an long distance calling license and bsnl now has a problem with that.... government has to move out of all telecom sector units and let the companies compete against one another. bad companies should die.

Yes...i guessed that but 900-1200 bucks a month for a 786Kbps connection is a really good deal! I wont mind paying upto $50 for 1Mbps line if I were earning in USD. Here 256Kbps line is being charged a 1000 bucks which is a daylight robbery.

Yes...so what? They hike up the prices to even twice the cost and still it will remain a good deal. Besides, Cable prices are cheaper there...something that we don't have here...
