i guess to start off it would better to start of with h/w with people listing thier h/w config. more imp thier mobo and if any ethernet card.

I am running Kubuntu with onboard ethernet of Intel motherboard. No AC in room. H/w wise this is the main connect points with PC. S/W wise, like I said, Kubuntu + Azureus with no download capping with 5k U/L capping. I have reset the router and after that have kept Firewall of router "Enabled". But I am not seeing any kb/s degradation so Ithink firewall by default does not come with block all rules.I haven't tried any other BT app since am on linux. but my prime suspect is BT for sure coz I don't download anything else. My second doubt goes towards room temparature. But the comp. is almost under the ceiling fan and fan is running @high speed 24/4 🙂

Once more thing, I am seeing ADSL light now slightly fluctuating but Telephone line has not yet developed any noise....atleast for now 🙂

These are the specs from me. Others please contribute.

I'm using the Onboard lan..comp in my sig..I've lasted for 1 week myself and during that week didnt use BT much..!Also last time I got out of GH.my Ip addy changed to 169.xx.xx.xx..u know the pvt IP address.but I wasn't using BT at that time.Maybe its router overheating..or are D-links cheap?Noise shud not be an issue..its ADSL2+ and speeds r only 256/512kbps.not much at all..

i think its more to do with the Bt client.. aka azureus.. and i doubt it has to do anything with router over heating..is it due to the way BT chokes bandwidth.. ? when i got a bt client running its very difficult to open even forums with pics/flash/scipts disabled .. hmmok so will try by limiting download speeds this time ..and def not using azureus .. lol

cant be due to choking bandwidth.i normally get 30kBps d/l speed on Bt.and i can surf easily..(sice its a 56kBps connection)..so cant be due to choking..

I dont use BT at all but i still get disconnected in about 3 days.I'm on Xubuntu with Opera downloads. Usin the onboard intel ethernet port and the D-Link router. No A/c just a fan which is ON when i'm on the comp like about 8 hours a day.I'm still betting that its a router thing.

nah ! azureus or any other client is NOT the cause for this disconnection , i am 110 % sure . tho when using BT if u do download and upload at full limit (with any stupid torrent clients , i have seen router choking out) , it has nothing to do with the cleints of BT .

i hardly use torrents , but last time i got choked out only becos i was upping and download with max speeds with torrents . but now i limited my uploads to 2-3 kbps and i am still going strong with 2 gb downloaded from azureus and still going strong (to hell with the ratios , u can recover that anytime later on ...)

i know its ADSL2+ technology , but still NEVER upload to the max when using GH , u will 100% get choked out that day or next day itself ....

oh ya that`s the chocking i`m talking abt... i think that`s what happened to me when my downloads and uploads went full blast!! my uploads are an astonishing 33KB.. this happened cause one of the torrents i was doing was done 100% and there was already a torrent uploading on azurues.. so tat added to the mayhem!! sheeshso two torrents uploading + 1 downloading and uploading + downloading using rapget ... and that was 33 u/l and 28 d/l!!!! hmm..will be more careful next time on...but again why choke ? in GH?? for 2 nights straight my d/l have been 750 mb and u/l at 730 mb.... and i didnt get dc???? what the hell!

Downloaded more than 2.3GB and uploaded 1.75GB so far so good.Speeds vary from 20kBps to 50kBps.Another GB to go.Router hanging in nicely.Using BitTorrent only.Upload capped@38kBps max.Edit: Just have to say this is a very nice post indeed.Good thinking powerontop 🙂

kim out i capped my d/l to 26n upload to 20was only usin bt but my router din't hanged but i was disconnected cause every thing stopped workin n adsl stutas showed not connectedi hav D-Link lan card n no ac in my room but my room is nicely ventilated n fan is also runnin 24/7.will try ut starcom next time

Damn am out of GH. Same problem Router hang. this time to test heat being the culprit, I moved my router while still being connected and put it directly under the fan which was running full speed. some minor recovery here and there but nothing to talk abt. things never reached 23-25 kb/s speed that I get when starting afresh. I am getting suspicious abt one more thing. What if the lan wire is faulty. remember all these things work on electronic principles and ur data transfer is nothing but electricity of a particular voltage. What if ur wire is heating up thereby creating collision. What raises this doubt? Coz when I used to push the wire still tight in the router, I used to see some recovery 6-7 out of 10 times. SO loose connection is also to be considered. Besides, Intel onboard lan setup can also be blamed. wish we could monitor the number of sockets connections managed by router. Something like netstat @router end. Do people with bridgemode alos face this problem? if I run on bridgemode does router and my machine become sort of like one machine? would doing netstat then also tell me people connected to router?

you know this is wierd.. i havent had my router hang up on me.. except for today.. when i was uploading something using Bit tornado... i dunno how well the uploads were going .. but my uploads stopped and my router hung. .same problem that my dear friend sanket has.. hmm.. this is wierd.. my connections are all proper.. hmmmm

hmm all fingers are pointing to BT and heat now and might be hardware components like lan cards/controllers, wires etc. This brings me to the next logical progression. The router is just that. A router. Why can't I simply plug the DSL line into my ehternet card? after all the router is also just a linux machine and so what if can do, our machine can also do. A linux and Windows machine can act as routers. What does everbody else experience say about this?

Hmm..But it wont fit right😛 the ADSL led into the lan port..wud it? I cant try now on GH B) Router is sideways. So not at all warm.not even one bit.Downloaded more than 4GB from BT and uploaded 3GB nearly!

I rather found out a crude way to deal with this problem.

Today when my router suddenly hung when i was uploadin file to my frined on msn, i cudnt open router home page and all.

I simply removed LAN cable and connected router through USB WITHOUT disconnectin router.

Net Started workin again.
So next time when Connection stops responding during GH in LAN mode i will simply connect USB wire and remove LAN wire.
LOL

Everyone try this and post ur results.
I feel quite optimistic !! 😀
