In the last couple of weeks (like today 24/4/06), I have experienced time outs accessing websites, Yahoo! smtp and pop server for my emails. I have my own DNS (bind) server (reduce dependence on MTNL DNS servers) - name resolution is not an issue. Ping to the MTNL GW 59.183.63.254 is fine which makes me think that the problem is further upstream - not sure within MTNL or higher up.Any one experiencing the same?

the sites i have failed to open are yahoo.com,rediff.com ,download.com,nvidia.com.
knura pls confirm on these sites.

i am using the dns settings as given.
what may be the problem??
thanks for any help

Ditto. Rediff working; unable to access blogger blogs, yahoo mail (main yahoo site working), hotmail, gmail.
Google.com and Google Reader are working.

I called up MTNL and they said that they've already received some complaints regarding this and are looking into it. No complaint number; just a "aapko call ayegi".

Update

Am able to access most sites using a proxy site - http://anonymouse.org

I have discovered that access to web sites, pop/smtp servers improves (no time outs) if I reboot the ADSL modem (new PPPoE session with another IP no.) when I experience recurring time outs.

i cant get rediff...🙁

I was facing this too for 2-3 days since around 24th. Even rebooting the router was not working. Seems like the problem is resolved now. Atleast it has started working fine for me since yesterday.
