Hi...First of all this is a great site for technical help!!!...I now have Airtel 2Mbps unlimited broadband connection which i have just upgraded from my previous 1 mbps unlimited..Now my problem is that as soon as i start utorrent downloads my speed just goes down..site surfing, router acces etc etc...utorrent downloads too are affected i.e they start fast then the speed drops..i have complained to airtel regarding this and they have checked wiring and changed port assigned but still the problem persists...I did not have any problems before with my 1mbps connection..i tried opendns too but still the speed issue is there...but as soon as i stop utorrent everything works fine..its not a OS(Win 7 RC1) issue cause i have been using the same OS with previous connection...Is Airtel throttling torrents???...regards🙂

What speeds are you getting with Utorrent?

hi,with utorrent speed im getting is around 245-250 KBps which is quite good but the drop is the issue and also the slow browsing..even the router page opens slow..i checked it with all the browsers...

your upload speed should be set at 40 kbps.the router is getting overloaded by the number of connections.reduce the global connections in u torrent. Its in the speed guide and open your ports by having bridge connection.

Well, how big is the drop? And I too notice the drop, but it's usually when my upload speed max's out.

Hi...Thanks for the prompt replies guys..well today the drop is not that much but its fluctuating...40kbps is too less as according to the speed guide it should be 86kbps...i have already set it to automatic in utorrent..major problem right now is the slow browsing..i have also set max torrents to 750 and per torrent max to 100 as per the guide...do u think i should change the router to a better one by Netgear or Belkin...

edit:- yes changing upload speed to 40 makes browsing fine...thank you guys..btw i have forwarded the ports on the router...

I am close to 100% sure that your problem is because of forwarded ports.Your router is not able to deal with traffic on forwarded ports and that is slowing down your speeds.Set your PC as a DMZ host and I am sure that you will see the improvement.😉

even i notice it, but isn't that normal? I am downloading at 200 odd kbps, uploading at 98 kbps, that gives me no bandwidth for browsing right? i always thought it was normal, and i limit my uploading to 40-45 kbps when downloading, but i leave my laptop on all the time to seed at full speed when i am not downloading anything...

yes thats what i was wondering...i mean when u give 2mbps download and 1mbps upload then it should work as it is...my previous connection of 1mbps didnt give any problems as i had kept everything to full in utorrent..anyways yeah i have done the same thing now...i keep upload at 50 (when Dling) and then when im not downloading then it is set to max...it works...Also ill try the DMZ method too...

put your computer ip in dmz. set upload to what speedtest tells you to. download speed set it unlimited. try downloading not more than 2 or 3 torrents simultaneously.

Yeah, i also noticed that the speed of browsing depends on the trackers. link-removed and TPB trackers were no problem, but when i try to download off some indian torrent sites it slows down my browsing considerably.

Well I would just like to add something here. Well, a slowed browsing seems quite normal to me while torrents are running in the background, though it should not happen on a 2 Mbps connection. I say this because while I was on a 2 Mbps connection with BSNL, my browsing and torrent downloads happened simultaneously without any issues. However I later shifted to a 256 Unlimited conn and that was when all the prob started. So either I was able to surf or download torrents. I guess its normal for a 256 k conn since the bandwidth is consumed immensely, but not sure why this should happen with a 2 Mbps conn...! 😕

I think it's often advised that you set the upload to 80% of your maximum, otherwise it eats up your bandwith. So, the surfing is fine as long as the upload speed is set to 80%.

hi,Instead of opening a new thread, i thought of posting my problem in the same thread. I recently upgraded my connection from 1mbps to 2mbps(2499 freedom plan). My speed fluctuates between 1.5 to 1.7 Mbps. I have checked like 30 times on speedtest.net. When i contacted the customer care, they sent a technician who after checking the settings told me that that is the max speed I can get. Even on direct downloads, I get max of 200-205 KBps. On torrents, I get max 185 KBps. Shouldn't I be getting the entire 250 KBps/2 Mbps atleast on speed tests and direct downloads? Am I being taken for a ride?ThanksAski
