Hello friends , I recently installed the MTNL Unlimited Net connection Plan - 512 kbps unlimited - Rs 1599 - [ While filling the form ] Now the plan is activated ~ In the morning - the speed was around 256 kbps - And now in the afternoon the speed is around 1 mbps So I wanted to know whether this thing is normal with MTNL Unlimited plans or not ~ If not - then I guess they must have activated my account with a different plan - It will take two days for me to contact with them since today is gokulashthami and tomorrow is Sunday I want to download an important Software via torrents ~ [ Around 400 mb ] So I just wanted to know whether anyone with an 512 unlimited plan has observed such problem ~ Also if possible can anyone of you guys tell me how could I identify the plan ? - [ I mean it has to have some name or a code - eg : XXXX plan activated ] I can login to their main server - enter my ID and pass and check the user interface - But - how can I identify the plan ~ Thanks for your help Kind regards~

When u log into register.mtnl.net.in, go to "View Services" and see the Plan they have put u on.

I saw an ad today in toi that 512 kbps is at Rs. 999 + tax. Please let me know which wireless router they give for Rs. 800?Please le me know which wired router they give for Rs. 500?Do they give splitter too free? How is the speed in Mumbai?Any other info welcome ! I am planning to get rid of sify!

I got my connection around 5 months back. They gave me a wired Sterlite modem with the splitter included. The speed is fine. It's around 70-80% of my plan speed.

I am having sify 256 unlimited at 899+150 = Rs. 1049 I am thinking of MTNL 512kbps unlimited for Rs. 999+ service tax.I have DIR-300 router and use 1 desktop and 1 wireless laptop.Sify is connected to DIR-300 and desktop is connected to DIR-300 via ethernet. Laptop is connected to DIR-300 via Wifi. Please suggest me how should I use the new mtnl connection? should I go with wireless router or wired router? Can I use DIR-300 in acess mode?Is wireless router of mtnl is good? whats the model number? how is the wireless range? I know I have too many questions !!

@sifyfan When you say DIR-300 I presume you a referring to the D-Link DIR-300 WiFi router, if so then you will only need a broadband modem which will work in conjunction with your DIR-300 router. I also presume that the router is not Sify owned. Since you mention that you are interested in the Unlimited Rs 999/- scheme announced on 15th Aug '09 they are waiving off the modem rent (as per the ad in newspaper) 🙂. But If you select a 'limited' pack there is a monthly rent. Connection layout will be the same as your existing layout.

BTW I kicked out Sify 'service' in 2005 after 3yrs of suffering & shifted to MTNL 😀

Thanks socrates.DIR-300 is D-Link & is my own. I am refering to the same ad. I am planing for unlimited as you said.So should I go with mtnl wired router and use it with conjunction with DIR-300 or should I spend 300 extra and get mtnl wireless and get rid of extra mess?I have a desktop & a laptop. Laptop will be using wireless and desktop is wired. Please suggest !!Thanks

The cheapest option is too go in for the MTNL modem as this does not entail the monthly rent for the unlimited schemes 🙂 when that is up & running, connect & configure the WiFi yourself. :yahoo: Since you have used the DIR300 in the past you will be familiar with its range/power etc so you wont have to bother other imponderables. BTW I use the D-Link 502T+Linksys WRT54G WiFi router (both self owned).

What is Safe Custody Charges per month Rs. 100/- ?Is it extra I have to pay above Rs.999 for 512 unlimited plan?

As far as I know 'Safe Custody Charges' are levied only when you TEMPORARILY return the tel connection back to MTNL but want the same number when tel connection is restored. eg: When you are going out of town for a few months & hence would not be needing it, but want again with same number when you come back. Best ask 1500 when you ask for the broadband connection.
