ok, here's a conspiracy theory (looking at the "temp" plan) :BSNL are about to be forced (by TRAI?) to open up their phone lines (un-loop, or whatever) so that other ISPs can provide DSL, so this is a desperate attempt to get high subscriber count... 😛

The few posts in this thread suggesting that NIGHT UNLIMITED is not applicable any more [post 31/03/2006] is quite interesting. This is creating quite a confusion, it seems. I am not sure why everybody is after the NIGHT UNLIMITED portion of the tariff.I think that as long as BSNL does not announce any new rates, schemes or terms, the existing rates and other terms and conditions prevail. If that was not the case, why does only the NIGHT UNLIMITED portion of the tariff have to be discontinued, leaving other terms intact. What's your rection to this, everybody ?

@Netizen06 , your view is correct . BSNL should not ( can not ) drop the night unlimited without prior notice . if it does so , alldataone users should join together to fight against BSNL ...

Today I personally visited the D.E.(Broadband) in my city, and he said that he has no information about any new plan for broadband and no new plan is imminent. Regarding the announcement about the present tariff being effective upto 31st march, he said that it was as per administrative formality only, it doesn't mean that the old tariff will be void after 31st March and a new one will be announced.Any comment?????

We have nothing to celebrate seshu. We are on Home 250 plans. One thing is for sure, they are not going to change anything in Home 250 plan. Because they have already done the changes in Home 250. (made available to business users)

If BSNL gives 256 k unlimited at Rs. 500/- then I may think of taking it.

^^ @Pushkar , I also have home 250 dataone connection .And I was anticipating change of data cap in this plan . alas ...

Everything in BSNL DataOne sucks except the speed. They have terrible data caps, negligible customer support, billing problems, ailing customers, etc. And now they have not changed the date of validity on their site, leaving behind the customers totally confused. I hope the August billing issue doesn't happen again.

BSNL dataone faq states :
http://www.bsnl.co.in/faq/faqans.php?paramCategory=Broadband
Why do you limit the amount of data I can download ?
BNSL aims to provide fast, reliable service to all the broadband customers. Some customers try to hog disproportionate amount of available resources. Customers might select lower end plans for heavy work or make excessive use of peer-to-peer file sharing. This could result in 20% users using over 80% resources. High levels of usage by a small number of users risks reduced performance for all users.

BSNL has the following options to solve this problem :
1. Lower the contention ratio
2. Provide more resources and increase the prices
3. Set download limits

The first two options are not fair to 80% users who use the resources sensibly. As such setting dowonload limits was the best and fair solution. If any user requires higher limit he/she can upgrade to higher plan. [/b]
I am not sure if this is justified . because most of the plan 500 users are heavily downloading during 2 AM - 8 AM . the process is automated ...

This is crap!!If as per their argument , 20% users hog 80% resources by p2p downloading, why did they give out so many connections!!I think it means they have insufficient bandwidth and want to extract maximum out of it ..obviously by looting customers!

Does this mean that we won't get to see any unlimited plan in our life from BSNL. I am just waiting for Airtel to crash BSNL with their unlimited plan. They just have to launch their services in all the places.

I'm also waiting for the unlimited plan... even if tat does'nt come rather they atleast make it 10:00 to 8:00 unlimited...
