Lately I'm getting this error which comes as an exclamation mark icon on the task bar when I'm connected to the net:

Code:
Windows - System Error:There is an IP address conflict with another system on the network.
I don't have any other devices like wireless router connected to my PC. Only my ADSL modem is connected through ethernet port.

Does it mean that MTNL is assigning the same IP to 2 different systems or is my IP address being hacked by someone on the same network :O?

do you have 2 or more LAN cards?? any virtual interfaces?? like vmware etc..

I've got only a single LAN card. I'd installed VMWare but I uninstalled it the same day as I didn't have the recommended configuration to run it.The error message comes when I keep my net switched on for a long time. I'm not that much concerned as it comes once in a blue moon but I still wanted to know what may be the reason behind it.

go to control panel->network connections , check to see how many network adapters you have.. also go to the command prompt and type ipconfig /all and post screenshot of output here

I'm pretty much sure I've got only one network adapter. As I'm away from my home now I can't post the screen shot of ipconfig/all command. I'll do it as soon as I return. Thanks for your reply 🙂.
