MAGICJACK in INDIA?

Hi,I have sent a magicjack device to family in Mumbai who have MTNL isp service (not sure of the plan they are on at this time) and after the MJ was connected to the computer and software installed, they get a dial-tone but when calling a number in USA it does not connect. When I call the MJ number I get to MJ voicemail. So initially I thought it may be a firewall issue but it was not as the firewall was turned off and still didn't work. Has anyone with MTNL service successfully got MJ working in Mumbai? if so, was there anything special that needs to be done?Thanks in advance.

Can you perhaps link to a magicjack service page so we might test it on our side of things. Voip services routinely work fine with mtnl... may just need a little bit of adjustment.

EDIT: ok it started working today without having to do anything special not sure why it didn't work yesterday. Great voice quality on my end but a little low volume on their end but overall it worked great.

One of friend said me about MAGICJACK , and im getting it for 47$ (Setup for 1 year + shipping to India) from us2mytown.com

Im not sure, how does that work and if its good for my business.

What and what do I need to get it setup and working perfectly ??

And after I get the jack , how do I have to setup and how can I choose my number and enter all of my details for the jack and how do I register that as a valid and official product ?

J,Unfortunately, Magic Jack does not work outside of United States. Their server looks at the source address of the caller’s your IP address and drop the call. You can only make call to other Magic Jack subscriber. There is a way around this. The solution is to create a VPN tunnel between your PC in India and a PC in US; then you route all the traffic via the VPN tunnel. -Cobra

dude, i've been using MJ for the past 27 days in mumbai w/o any errors other than some downtime by mtnl on last friday.i know other ppl who have been using w/o any issues at all on mtnl in thane & mulund.- vx:thumb:

interesting , i've heard that the service is bad with very bad connectivity.. how much does it cost, no of calls etc?

if u r talking abt the MJ svc, its gr8, i didnt face bad call svc yet. Only thing is u have to reduce ur torrent bandwidth to abt 40kbps, else pause it for the duration of the call. otherwise it gives a ringing effect (echoing).i use it for abt 90-120 mins daily, its a 20$ flat annual rate. :thumb:- vx

Magicjack is working gr8 in India. It even works on 64 kbps speed but you at that speed you just need to use only Magicjac, if you use more applications there is a difference in voice clarity.

All you need is a PC with basic broadband internet. An email address an US address. That is it. You can select first 6 numbers but the last 4 numbers are random, n then ur ready to go.

Hi I am using Majic Jack also. My sister sent it to me from US. she paid 19 $ for 1 year. I had a 512Kbps Unlimited connection before, but the voice breaks you need a faster connection. with magic jack you get 1 US number of your choice but then they charge you extra to change the number, it connects through your usb (needs USB 2.0). I had problem running it on XP but works fine on Vista. Is NOT compatible with Linux. (atleast not yet) they have a CC online so you can talk to them for details and charges.
You also get Voice mail with it, which can also be forwarded to your email. Also in order to recieve calls, you need to have your computer on. Which is a problem in case there are powercuts here in India. Over all, I have used Skype and Majic Jack. Usability wise I think Skype is more flexible as you can install on your phone, and just use it from your mobile device, I was using it on iPhone, with 10$/month world wide Subscription or I think 5$ for US/Canada.
Majic jack is also good, but the fact that you have to leave the computer on all the time in order to recieve calls makes it a little bit Unfriendly towards the user, also If you have wireless on the laptop you can just connect it to that.
Over all Voice clearity is equal for both, but since Upload rate for most data plans is low you need to get a plan with good upload rate, AND no i dont think it will work with 64Kbps.

edit: I just checked the Pack (in which it came) it says its for 39.92$ from Best Buy, and any additional years subscription is for 19$ and well they have new offers all the time so go check out their website @ www.magicjack.com
