I have vonage phone in India which was working fine until my sister decided to move and put in her room. Their internet connection was down for a few days and the guy had to come from MTNL to fix the issue they were having. So my sister unassembled the vonage phone and now we can get it back to work. Now when i call my vonage number from USA the phone rings but they can't hear the ringer. Since my sister moved the phone to the other connection in the other room and she gets the message from the phone saying " The port is not active please move to the port which is active" So my sister called MTNL to see if the ports are active..they asked her alot of other questions but didn't tell her if it was. My question is do you guys know if i were to have a vonage phone in India sent from USA does MTNL care (is it legal to do so?)My next question is there a way to check by myself if the port it activate for VOIP.I really appreciate if you guys can help me outThank you

The modem/router of MTNL you use should be "Always On"
and DHCP enabled.
Confirm computer works with RJ45 from Vonage unit to
computer ethernet port. .

connect the Rj45 ( from modem ) to vonage unit and report the error message.
Usually just switching off and On again solves the problem.

If technically interested, default Ip for Vonage is 192.168.15.1
entering it in IE Id is router password is router
( if not changed )
you can check up the settings.
Usually not required.

If all the icons appear "Globe" "Monitor" and "Telephone"
appear with date in the lcd display set up is ok.

my sister moved the phone to the other connection in the other room
not clear.

All phones ( for VOIP) to be connected to vonage unit's Phone port only.

vonage model vdv21-VD.

You have a U.S number and it is paid for in U.S.

I use Vonage and works fine just that my MTNL connection speed has dropped considerably in the last 15 days. If the Vonage handset gives the notification message that port is not correct then the issue is with Vonage and not MTNL.

Thanks for your reply guys....Yes the bill is paid in US. Is that considered legal in India? When i do connect the internet through the vonage phone adapter it works fine...they are able to surf the web.First when the phone was working it was at a different location. Since they bought new furniture they decided to move the phone and the MTNL router to a new location. The guy came moved the connection to the other room and now when my sister connected the phone correctly...I call them the phone rings but they don't hear the phone ring. And when they try to dial out they get the message saying move to another port which is activeSo I am confused on what to do..Help please.....

using vonage is ok..although Vonage is not a licensed VoIP provider in IndiaI think ur sister has connected the telephone wire to the wrong port in the vonage adapter..she can try connecting the telephone wire jack into the other port.
