BSNL DataOne
What do you guys think? BSNL would launch new plans on 31st March. What changes are likely to take place? any idea.i just hope they give night unlimited in Home 250 or they provide a full unlimited plan like Airtel's Unlimited 999

Broadband bill is likely to increase due to the recent change in budget regarding service tax. And I am not hopeful at all regarding increase in download limit of dataone.

not just the broad band bill the entire incoming lot's of bill will be BALL,ne ways thats beside the point i dont see unlimited coming from dataone but what i do expect is that they would deinitely bring in some more palns b/w the already ones with higher data trasfers.

Guys we ahould keep somet thing in mind BSNL in not a localised service where as Touchtell is airtel is catering only some parts of the countery and they have bandwidth accordingly but BSNL needs to cater the lenght and the breadth also a host of other things they have to have some way to control their users so isnt this a novel way hey have found out. Service tax is applicable on your net bill. Service tax has been increased from 10(or 10.2) to 12%. How much difference does it make? On a bill of Rs 1000, there will be an increase of Rs. 20. Not a very big deal. There has been a lot of reduction in international bandwidth prices in the last 1 year. So increase in service tax doesnt have much to do with the reduction in cost of broadband.

Even a 50% reduction in broadband plans is very much possible. Moreover BSNL wont revise the plans every now and then. So, they must take out a plan which is aggressively placed in one go.

Why should they be aggressive??? Any particular reason, like stiff competion etc.?? I don't think so, BSNL will continue to milk their customers as long as possible, and until the 'REAL' broadband comes(like unlimited connection of 512Kbps or more at Rs.300 p.m. or less, and widely available too, at least in the major cities ) or some miracle happens, whichever is earlier.

(Remember, BSNL has earned more that 10000 crores of net profit in the last year, and this year it will be higher, and that too after facing competion from other companies like Bharti, and others, in mobile, and landline business. If it were the intention of BSNL to bring the 'REAL' Broadband in India, it could easily do so, but it didn't, and why they should??? Can u give us any good reason???)

And remember, BSNL has announced competitive plans for mobile as well as basic phone services more than once within the last quarter, but no plan for b'band.

Moreover, BSNL is an organisation which doesn't know the difference between KBps and kbps, so what more can be expected of them!!!!

FYI

and goto other regional bsnl sites and they are much more informative than many other sites on this NET

http://www.bangaloretelecom.com/dataone/speed.doc

i certainly do agree with you on all the other aspects bsnl might have earned profits they would be a big company but they isnt it true that they go slow

BSNL unlimi will be there but it will be there with a BLAST in ur pokets

All I know is that it was BSNL who came up first with 'affordable' broadband and they are also giving me promised speed unlike other ISPs. At least they dont cheat you like other ISPs promise you a speed and you actually get speed less than that. If a person doesnt like BSNL plans, he/she can opt out rather than moaning. Tell me a single ISP in India which gives you 256 kbps in Rs 500 per month. Had it not been BSNL, I would have still been on dial-up and if you are among those who can afford Rs 1000+ per month internet, then you are among a very miniscule set of people.

By 'aggressive', I dont mean they will start giving you 512 kbps unlimited for Rs 100 per month. LOL. Why are they always a step ahead of Airtel? Airtel hasnt come up with 256 kbps within 500 per month till date and these plans of BSNL are almost 1 year old now! Hypocrisy!

EDIT - yes, I do have Airtel available in my area and that option is still open for me.

Positron,

First of all, you are praising BSNL so much. but you describe your net connection as BSNL Fraudband. 🙂

Secondly, there are lot of billing problems in DataOne. Read this

http://www.vinuthomas.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=3069.html

This is just an example. There are countless other billing problems in BSNL. The biggest problem is their calculation of overlapped usage in Night Unlimited.

The 1600 helpline number is horrible. The people there have no technical knowledge. They don't know the difference between kbps and kBps.

Pushkar,Praising eh? I just gave you plain facts.1. They give me promised speeds.2. It is the only affordable broadband connection.Yes, there are many guys who have had billing problems. I am a BSNL user and I am just telling you what the facts are. I know the billing structure and customer care are very poor.

I guess some of us need to be clear about what broadband internet really means. So, please tell me why I should get rid of my dial up line and take broadband instead....this is what I think...; I need huge data over my internet line, that's why...there is no other reason whatsoever for taking broadband, like showing off to my friends etc.. I need to do video chat, I need to watch online movies, play online games, share the photos and videos that I shot with my family/friend, check out the latest linux distros.... the list is endless...and all these need huge bandwidth... and for that I want broadband. If all that I needed is sending emails or making railway reservations, I didn't have to opt for broadband, the dialup would have been suffice.Ok, now why should I take 24/7 always-on 256 kbps broadband??? Because (1) I need that much bandwidth all the time and (2) I need it 24 hours a day, everyday. Otherwise, the plan would have been like 100 hours Dataone or 50 Hours Dataone package (like the dialup plans). Now, BSNL is giving '24 hours always-on' 256kbps line' but only 1 GB per month, which, by the way, is equivalent to 10 hours of dataone experience (@ 100 MB per hour). So, either we are expected to use Dataone for 10 hours in a month (at full bandwidth for 256 kbps) or, 720 hours in a month (i.e., 24/7) @ 414 bps speed (!!!), otherwise u have to pay @ Re.1.20 per MB extra. So, are they giving u the promised speed??? or is it just your illusion??? What BSNL is doing is giving you 10 hours of 256 kbps line or a 414 bps 24/7 line (or someting in between). You said dataone is affordable. Is it really?? You don't have to compare Dataone with broadband in countries line England or Taiwan, at Re.1.20 per MB, Dataone is more expensive than dialup line in India. People are forced to use BSNL because there is no real competition and people have less (or no) awareness about their rights. Broadband means unlimited broadband, but we the Indians invented a new definition of broadband (like every other thing) which is unique in India, you can log on, stay connected with a high speed line all day long, but cannot use the internet....simply because it will consume data, and ur limit is only 1024 KB per month... ( then what good is ur broadband after all???) funny isn't it??? No, its not funny, its a farce, a fraud, cheating with the people.... but the sad thing is some of us is jumping in joy saying 'HAIL BSNL...' without understanding anything. ( So, after the 'very affordable' broadband offer, ie, 400 MB p.m. @ Rs.250/-, if BSNL comes up with a more 'extremely affordable' offer like Rs.100/- p.m. with 100 MB data cap, I wonder what people will say then??!!!!!!)

Broadband means unlimited broadband, but we the Indians invented a new definition of broadband[/b]

Nop! BROADBAND does not mean Unlimited BROADBAND it simply means a wider band for data transfer

I checked out some plans and the cheapest ones in U.K and european country's

the best deal avlbl was UPTO 8 Mbps (Only @ ofpeak Hours) and Upto 256 Kbps Upload (Only @ Ofpeak Hours) 20GB Data transfer limit with 2 punds for additional GB considering the 20 gb limit i know it is a lot but point i make here is that not many country's have unlimited plans for broad band users the limit might be high but it is not unlimited unlimited plans start with T1 or T2 or 1E 2E lines.

Considering the useage reports which say all of INDIAS bandwidth is comparable to a locality's in the WEST isnt what we'r getting gud for the moment it's oly that that we are not satisfied.Bye the way how much bandwidth is actually enough

The deals simple BSNL needs to curtail bandwidth utilisation but at the same time it has to provide BROADBAND so limit the useage at the same time give 512 or 256.

I understand this seems upsurd but this is how it is.When GSM landed here it was 20 for a min in/out .and NOW

well, right now their main aim is to hit the million subscribers mark and that's why there are all these offers...they want everyone to check mails through broadband but not download HUGE files through it 😉

just wondered when we check our useage we remain within the data one network as the useage is not accesible from outside so is that data metered
