since today another 20% improvement in speed is there.has anyone noticed such change in your cities? 🙄

not really. atleast its not as slow as it was in the last couple of weeks. i am still not getting closer to 256k i should be getting. 🙂

isnt there an approx 10% "overhead" , meaning you should get 225 kbps on a "256k" package?I get mostly 480kbps on my 512k bsnl connection, I'm fine with that... should I be expecting a full 512k?The ISPs should set their numbers on their server to 10% MORE than what they advertise, so a "256k" connection should be set to say 300k so that the consumers actually get the full advertised speed.Another topic for the regulatory authorities to think about ;-)

i think they should advertise what they can provide. customers dont care about the technology which loses 10% of bandwidth on the way to ur house.

in a moment of clarity (fuelled by alcohol), i felt i figured out this whole airtel jhanjhat.

airtel is actually being more honest than we give them credit for, by trying to give us, in a way, what has been promised.

stay with me on this...

i have a 128 connection... hence, IDEALLY, i should be getting 16kb/s. but i don't. i'm getting 10-11kb/s these days. sad, but true.

but here's the good part.

they've promised (me, via a specially delivered letter) double speeds at night. and, lo and behold, i'm getting 20-22kb/s around 11pm.

heh. i am happy except for the fact that they overcharged me for my package and dont give me double speeds at night 😉

"flowchart cramming duffers" heheheand "old geezers" (on the broadbandblog) heheand 10% aint peanuts! its like, 50 kbps lost speed for me! thats like, 20 MB per hour in lost download opportunity... and im paying for an advertised 512kbps!yep, this definitely is something the regulatory authorities should look into 🙂

I'm getting "double" speeds at night.... as in around 384kbps... not what it should be (around 480+ kbps).... better than nothing I suppose.... and of course it doesn't make much difference in surfing.. just heavy downloads....

No speed increases here at all..just 25KB/s night or day.Have been a few disconnects the past few days, but it usually resumes minutes afterwards.

apart from the dpubling at night, it would be good to get doubling on (all of) sundays too...mass mail karein airtel ke customercare ko? actually, better to route these requests to their management, since, as mentioned in another thread, the suits came up with the idea of doubling, without consulting the techs...

First day on Airtel Broadband. Had to disconnect my beloved MTNL triband NU coz my dad decided he'd taken enough crap from MTNL and it had to go (our monthly bill never showed up and my dad had to go to the exchange and then they had the nerve to ask him to pay surcharge coz the due date had passed) So anyway, the airtel guys finished the wiring & installation today. It was nice to see them actually doing quite a professional job especially the wiring bit rather than mercilessly shredding n twisting wires and leaving them dangling like the MTNL linesman even though they did not take any reg and installation charges. Even though they gave me a beetel modem i was relieved to find that it allowed port forwarding which was my main concern. Speeds.....hmmm...the bad....slow surfing speeds and avg speeds of 12-14KBps (home699) but i was expecting that having read abt others facing the same issues on this forum. The good....speeds doubled to 26KBps at around 10:50pm (not stable though, hovering b/w 22-28KBps).
