Here is my take on the after Spark 500 km.Note: The only cars I have driven for more than 100 km are a Maruti 800 (5-speed) and the "old" Zen. So my comparisons are limited to these two.I am also a guy, who believes that the greatest vehicle on land runs on rails - so cars should also be driven like that (no no, I don’t mean the "right of way" but that passengers should not be able to make out when the gears are changed, even from 1 to 2).Outside-------The Spark isn’t mean or muscular like the i10’s and the A-Stars, but it has its own charm. Something like the Dev Anand of the 60’s standing beside the 6-pack Khans of today. What I really like are the circular tail lamps, though that is the exact thing some people hate the most in this car.The reverse lights are kept low, which complements the low front fog lamps (in the LS model at least). However, the reverse lamp assembly inside, being positioned just above the mud flap, is bound to get sprayed by mud and water from the rear wheel. A peek on this assembly from rear wheel, which shows a couple of wires hanging out at the connector end, is not exactly confidence-inspiring. I live in a state where it rains 9 months a year (Kerala), and, though a combination of bureaucratic negligence (or indulgance) and forest/mining "mafia" is working hard so that it rains lesser, I would match rather have GM work on the problem at the "car-side".Inside------The doors close reassuringly solid; no, not Palio class, but you feel safe anyway. The leather seat, is a GM-approved accessory (bought from the dealer itself); but with the GM symbol stamped on it, many people did assume that this came along with the vehicle itself. It looks really neat and classy. One thing I couldn’t help noticing was the space wasted on the passenger side of the dash. It is airbag-area for the high end version, but I still feel GM could have come up with a much better design for the dash. One interesting point which I found in the owner’s manual is GM’s warning not to use liquefied fragrances in the dash. Not sure whether GM is making a statement on the strength of chemicals in today’s fragrances or the strength of the plastic used in the dash.Driving-------The driver seat gives a good view of things around, though not as good as the old Zen. Indeed, the old Zen offered such good view all around, like the view of the guy who pops out on top of military tanks. Which is well as good, since Indian roads are virtually a warfare area. The Spark loses to Zen not because it is bad, but because the Zen is the best. The car has a good ground clearance, again which is needed considering the "trenches" in our warfare area. And the most annoying problem - the lack of enough underthigh support. Forget the Zen, even my ever-faithful Maruti 800 fared better here. On long drives, you really need a break ever hour or so.There seems to be something amiss with the position of the steering wheel, you need to stretch out your arms to hold it ( I am 5’11"). Which means your arms tire after some time. Wait, even my no-power-steering M800 never had this problem, even on long highway drives. And this thing tires in a few minutes of drive. Of course, you can rest in the door rest; but there is some ergonomic problem here. But these nuances whither away when you experience the quality of the ride offered. You would never expect such a smooth ride in such a compact car.I also find the day/night rear view mirror very practical. The gear shifts are smooth and precise. The only irritant is you cannot reverse on "half-clutch" alone, if you have turned the wheels fully; you need to slightly press the accelerator. Maybe, it is because of the low turning radius, which makes parking much easier. While the analog central consoles are very easy to read, the digital clock and odometer are too dark to be read while driving. It’s only at night that they make themselves readable without needing to be peeped into. The engine is neat and quiet. I wouldn’t be surprised if I crank it on even while it is actually on - it is so quiet. Guess I would have to keep an eye on the indicator lamps always before starting the engine. The engine seems to be a low torque one, very useful in city - you can keep running without always changing gears; but you shall be punished in highways, unable to overtake at high speeds. The rear passenger has surprisingly good legspace, which I presume is at the cost of my nagging thigh. Enjoy. And the mileage I got on highways is 17 kmpl, which is reasonable. Haven’t checked the city mileage, but I guess it should only be 2-3 km lower.And...------So while the 6-pack Khans thrash the villains and hang around with the damsels, Dev Anand will carry on forward, smiling and with a whistle for, as they say in their ad, a special journey called life.Purchase Price (INR): 350000 Dealer Name and City: Deedi, Tvm Model Year: No Comment How useful was this review? Although some of the comparisons with Maruti 800/zen i do not agree but a good worthwhile comparing things which i did not find in any other review. It should be helpful now when i plan to purchase Spark muzic. Keep it up ----------------------I purchased Chevrolet Spark LT version in Jan 09 from Sundaram motors, Chennai. During the price negotiation, the sales manager told and given in a written statement that he will be providing MP3 music system with four speakers (2 in the rear side- by fixing on the removable wooden tray). I had also seen some vehicle in the showrooms which were waiting for deliveries were having the rear speakers. But during the vehicle delivery, he told me that the GM motor is not willing to do the modification and if you wanted to do so that is on your risk. If any problem comes in the future, GM motor may not give you warranty support not only to the music system and also to the vehicle. I told him that if it is so, you can give me some other accessories or return the money which is equivalent to the cost of the additional 2 speakers (About Rs. 4000). Finally, he told me that he will be providing the speakers and it is poorly on the owner’s risk. In connection to that, I separately discussed with Chevrolet service station, they told me there wouldn’t be an issue if you fix additional speakers. Can anyone suggest on this …..Please…………………….. In addition to that if you want to fix woofers then you have to cut the plank and fit the same. What i feel is Since GM gives only plank, its upto the customer to opt for the same. I have fitted Kenwood stero and 4 - 4inch. nippon speakers fitted by GM Sundaram Motors in Bangalore. Everything is fine and working condition is also good. -Manish venkata_rch said:Feb 12, 2009 09:12 PMHi Shilpa I have purchased LS version of Spark in Feb 2008, I have 2 front two speakers of Sony and a sony mp3 player of late I have recently fixed two rear speakers of pioneer with 6 * 9 inch speakers by attaching on the wooden plank at the rare seats. The sound quality by fixing the additional speakers at the rear seats is great. There are no issues of warranty by attaching the speakers. As I myself have consulted the service station of GM at Hyderabad. They said it can be done. The sound system is simply great. xtrememachines said:Mar 16, 2009 10:47 PMHi Shilpa, Greetings I have fitted 4 Speakers to my Spark LT 2 Nos Oval at the Back and 2 Nos 4’’ in the front To fit the rear speakers, you have to change the parcel tray, with an aftermarket wooden plank specially made for Spark. I have fitted with JBL speakers and Kenwood system consisting of MP3 player, radio and cassette. I recommend you get your vheicle serviced @ KLN Motors, they give a fantastic service. Many have complained about Sundaram’s service ------------------Initially I had shortlisted three cars within a budget of 3-4 lakhs (on road). They were the Maruti Alto, Chevrolet Spark & Tata Indica (my mistake !). When I went to the showroom I was in for a surprise. The Indica was a spacious car with good seats and boot space. Looks were reasonably good. But I was disappointed with the mileage and engine. My next stop was at the Chevrolet showroom. I was instantly impressed by the finish and refinement of the car. It was not very spacious but could easily accommodate five people. The cost was just a twelve grand above the Alto, a two grand over the Indica. The onroad price was 3.22 lakhs for the power steering version. I decided to take a test ride. I was welcomed by a blast of cold air on my face. The AC was efficient and quick. The pickup too was excellent. The highway mileage I was told was around 17 kmpl. Additionally the company offered a 3 year warranty which covered labor and spare costs. So I finally zeroed in on the Spark. Oops ! I forgot to mention. I never made it to the Alto showroom.Following are some of my remarks about the Spark.Looks & Interior: Cute with smooth flowing lines. The oddly shaped headlights and round tail lamps lend character to the car. The concentric lines on the tail lamp are a delight to see when they light up. However I wasn’t very happy about the tail lamp jutting into the rear glass. The interior is spacious enough with ample legroom. The speedo and other dials are placed in the center console which is not a distraction. Behind the steering is a set of warning lights to indicate any malfunction. Cubby holes are present to hold items like bottles, magazines, coins, card etc. A 12 volts outlet is present for charging your mobile etc. The seats are comfortable enough but under thigh support is less. But you could easily stretch your legs as there is ample legroom. The rear view mirrors can be adjusted internally. The boot and fuel lid are remotely operated. The boot space at 170 liters is sufficient. The rear seats can be folded back to increase the space to an impressive 840 liters.AC: The AC is efficient and quick. There is no considerable power or mileage loss when the AC is on. For sunny weather a sun film is a must.Ride quality and handling : The Spark excels in both these areas. The engine noise is very less. The cabin is so silent during idling that you need to check the lights to know it is running. Maneuverability is excellent and the Spark threads its way through narrow lanes and traffic easily. Also, the car is small enough to fit into the tightest parking spaces. The ride quality is very good and the shocks absorb vibrations under most conditions. However, when riding through large undulations the car tends to bob a bit.Engine and Performance: The Spark has a 1 liter 4 cylinder engine unlike the Alto which has a 800cc 3 cylinder engine. It builds up 63 bhp and drives at top speed of 150kmph. At 140 kmph the speed is hardly noticeable except on the speedo. The acceleration is good in the 20-80 kmph range and the braking is sharp. It adapts to the highway well enough. The average city mileage is about 13 kmpl. On the highway the mileage is between 16-17kmpl. The stability at high speeds is good. 0-100kmph takes about 15 secs.Safety: Air bags and ABS are options. The car has a hexagonal shock absorbing frame and comes with tubeless tires which add to safety at high speeds in case of a tire burst. To sum up, the Chevrolet Spark is a car worth the money you spend. The looks, ride quality, engine and fuel economy is much more than you can expect at this price. The 3-year /100,000kms warranty makes it a car you can’t go wrong with !Purchase Price (INR): 328500 Dealer Name and City: KLN Motors Model Year: No Comment How useful was this review? I, too had gone for purchasing ’’spark’’, but finally decided on UV-A, LS Model. The reason is it is slightly larger, and requires no gear shifting after a speed breaker (Generally you can pull it in 4th gear by pressing accelerator), While ’Spark’’ requires shifting to 2nd gear. However, UVA is not that manueoverable, reverse parking is horrible, 1st and reverse gears get stuck, except this it is very pleasurable to drive and Cheverolet Service back up in Mumbai is very good. The service rendered by the dealers and their sales executive is comparable and satisfactory. They are highly co-operative and care taking.I bought the car on 23rd October, 2008 and covered so far about 1500 kms. The vehicle is serving as expected with better average of about 14 kms in city and 17 kms on highway. I am thoroughly satisfied with the car and the vehicle is worth of the value for the price. Thanks & Regards. Thillai. ------------------Hi all MS Readers,After making research for almost 4 months right from getz, i10, alto, zen estilo, santro I selected this zippy Spark. I booked on Jan 05, 2009 after the loan was approved by SBI, Residency Road Branch (lighting fast service). I was very impressed by their appraisal methodology & I can vouch for their expertise in dealing with customers. This was done after my existing Bank turned down my loan application & to my dismay I have a salary account from past 4 years – Axis Bank. I got the car delivered on Jan 12, 2009 – Blazzing Red. Atleast as of now, my dealer here at Bangalore (Sundaram Motors) are very good and the sales girl is very co-operative and helpful. The car is superb, the pickup, engine sound, looks, ride quality, PRICE no where near to i10, alto or any other car in the hatchback segment. Will write more on car’s performance, dealer experience, etc once I complete my first service.Purchase Price (INR): 3,54,000 Dealer Name and City: Sundaram Motors, Bangalore Model Year: 2007 How useful was this review? I got good value for money. This vehicle is technologically superior to many other cars in its category. The ride and handling is amazing and best suited for Indian roads. To compare it to Daewoo matiz is unfair because the Spark has numerous latest improvements to the Matiz.During long trips one doesn’t feel like sitting in a small car at all. The monovolume design has optimised space inside the car while making it compact outside. The compact size outside makes it easy to drive and park in the city.Average mileage is around 16 kmpl. I could not find any complaints with the car or its performance. However the dealer in Chennai, KLN Motors, Kilpauk, is horrible. The sales team is just focussed on getting the cheque from you.Once this is done they never bother about you or your car. My RC had an error in it and still they havent rectified it.One has to make repeated calls and visits to the dealer to get things done.Another disadvantage is that the service center is in Ambattur located very far away from most developed parts of Chennai. During the sales talk KLN’s representative promised free pickup and delivery duing service but the ambattur service department claim to be ignorant about this. My advice to people looking to buy this car in chennai is to go ahead and confidently buy it BUT PLEASE DONT BUY FROM KLN MOTORS.Purchase Price (INR): 3.3 LACS(OnRoad) Dealer Name and City: KLNMOTORS,KILPAUK,CHENNAI Model Year: No Comment How useful was this review? One dissappointment abt this car is the fuel efficiency as this is just 990 CC engine so comparatively this gives less mileage than other cars but to be honest fuel part also plays the major part in small cars. moreover this car goes upto 140 Km/hr which is pretty high in small cars. well i dont want to praise too much abt this car so overall its a good car and pretty small family car. Also i had my worst dealer experience, I bought this on employee referral programme so the dealer gets no margin in this business so because of this they wantedly delayed my car and made me to wait for a very long time and they didnt give any response to my phone calls and no matter how many times i visited their showroom.finally i took up the matter with higher officials in General Motors as i know someone there so things got finally solved.Really it was terrible exp ..details: Spark LT color : BlackPurchase Price (INR): 3.6 Dealer Name and City: shiva motors Model Year: No Comment How useful was this review? The car is so good that it can compete with any car in the market. The gear shift is bit tight but overall I will rate spark 9/10 overall. With such a price it can compete with all B+ segment cars.Chevy is proving to be a good car manufacturer. Spark has the potential to lead the market. If we compare it other cars in the market like wagon r / estilo/ I10 it has the potential to beat them. If you are going for this car I will recommended you to go for it as it has got everything a car buyer is looking for. Thought would look for a change in the small car and centred down for an "Alto", given the reliability of "Maruti". Must say I maintain my vehicles immaculately.Just then, a friend of mine suggested that I take a test drive of a "Chevy Spark" prior to my purchase....... and WOW !! I never thought as I got into the driving seat that a car so small could behave the way a "Spark" does. The comfort level is great (given the size of the car). Power derived as you rev the engine is mind bogling for the dainty look of the car (this look is a compliment) with it’s wild flamboyant colours. I didn’t go any further. I bought the "Spark".Today, I am a very happy "Chevy Spark" owner for the last two months and thank this friend every now and then. (He kicks himself every time I thank him as he compares the "Spark" with an "Alto" he had bought just a few weeks prior to my purchase). The "Spark" is a definite winner in it’s segment.A sure buy for people having that "Spark" in life !!Chiranjeev Baruah Purchase Price (INR): Rs.2,91,000.00 Dealer Name and City: Radiant Motors Model Year: No Comment How useful was this review? I already had an alto (LX) in my family. So i was looking for a car above Alto.Shortlisted Santro, Xeta and Spark.Test drove all the 3 cars and finally was confused between santro and spark. The interior of spark impressed me more compared with santro. Also there was a huge discount of 49000 at that time so spark was cheaper.Even the sales rep at GM was more professional then the one at Hyundai ( maybe a met a wrong guy at hyundai)Finally selected spark as handling was also little better then santro. It’s been 3 months now and i am happy with the car. I even drove it on highway for 330km with the car full packed (5). Positives of spark:Excellent customer service and after sales service.AC is excellent and the cabin gets chilled in 15 min at blower set to 2.Gas filled shockers are one of a kind in this segment and makes you feel the difference.Pick up is great and makes you realize its power.Engine is so silent that sometimes you need to check the display to see if the car is on.Tubeless tyres.Negative:Boot space is less if you compare it with other car in its segment. ( for city not much used but felt it when drove to HomeTown ).Blower is little loud and you feel like setting the fan speed at 2.Still i think that it is too early to comment my 100% on this car. But i am really happy with the car I have selected as it is great for a small family and for city drive.Currently i am getting a mileage of 11-12km with 90% ac on.Still need to go for the first service after 1500 more kms. At last I would only say that this review is totally based on my experience and is not meant to convince people to buy Spark.I would only say that test drive the cars you like and then select the one which impresses you the most. Thanks and ByePurchase Price (INR): 311000 Dealer Name and City: shiva motor, noida Model Year: No Comment How useful was this review? He had zeroed on Spark as Santro was out of his budget. Subsequent to the purchase, i had to drive him around (until now) as he is yet to learn driving!! I own a Santro Xing 2004 model (XP) and during the process of driving i gained some useful insights into this cute little car which i wanted to share for the benefit of all. Interiors: Spark is a very deceptive looking piece of wonderful machine. Although it looks small from outside, it has sufficient leg room both at the front and rear. The interior plastic could have been spruced up like in Estilo, however the dials have a cute look about it. The floor does not have protusions at the back (Santro does have a small chassis intrusion at the back which is a minor irritant) and the rear seats offer good lumbar support. This cannot be said of the driver seat which is little short of under thigh support. You also have a feeling that the seat is slightly lower for the driving position (mind you i am 5 9" tall!!) Engine: A silent mill that can potter around town all day long and does not run out of breath unless you indulge in spirited driving / overtaking. 63 Horses do a good duty in this sub 1 litre engine providing a comparable performance in city, though the engine feels out of breadth when driven all out against the bigger engined santro or for that matter Wagon R. What is surprising is the linear delivery of torque without much of whining. Surely not for nothing that GM has reintroduced the Daewoo star. Brake & Suspension: All four gas shock absorbers do a good job, although on rough roads you get the boom noise thanks to the tubeless tyres and also due to lack of proper sound proofing. But this is not a major complaint though. Brake does not have feel and braking is a let down compared to Santro or for that matter Wagon R. There is no progressive feel also while braking. Exterior: Nothing to say as this is the best looking small car. The head lamps at the front and the smiling grille at the front are way ahead of Santro Xing or Wagon R. Mileage: Solid city mileage of 15 Kmpl in city driving conditions (the vehicle has done only 1100 kms so far so i cannot comment unless the vehicle undergoes the first oil change at 5000 Kms) and 18.5 Kmpl on the highway. I have recently booked Spark LS after compering with Wagon R , Santro & Zen Estellio. I can bet the comfort of the spark as compared to all other . I am a new driver & this is my first CAR. So i compared unbiased all the above mention model & then decided to go for Spark. Word of Caution for the new buyers. I first owned a Maruti-800 for 1 year and then I went for 2nd hand Matiz. I fell in lov with matiz but I had sell it after 18Months. Then I baught a Alto and then a Santro. All of the above were 2nd hand but good cars. When I heard that Matiz is beiung relaunched, I was waiting for some financial freedom. As soon a the arrangements were made I decided to buy a car. But was under confusion to go in for a big 2nd hand car or new small car. I though I will re consider all the options. After a reserach of 2 months on Big and small cars. I decided to buy a new small car. Then I test drove almost all cars in the price range of 3lacs and 6lacs.You all know about Swift/Wagon-R/Getz/Santor/Alto etc....( I will not write about Interiors..etc..... of all the cars) I then decided to go with Spark as I have plans to buy big car and this can be used by my wife eventually ( 2009). Then a big problem was to settle down of color. After investing lot time thinking on colors. I decided to go for black. I then approached the Dealer(Vijai Motors - Bangalore) and finalised.I have to really approciate the treatment which I got from Vijai Motors right from the day I took test drive till i got the delivery.I applied for Loan on 18/07/08 and was approved on 24/07/08 and Delivery Order was given by Bank on 30/07/08.But the dealer did not have the Black-LT car in stock. They asked me to wait for 2 weeks and after 2 weeks they again apologised for delay and asked me to give options on colors otherthan black.I gave them 3 options Black and red as priority and white as option to reconsider after Vehicle arrives. Then 4weeks passed loan approval, only white color arrived. I confirmed them for white and again changed my mind immediately after 2hrs as I got the news from my Cousin that Kingfisher Airlines had booked 500 Sparks for there staff.I called the Vijai Motors manager and cancelled White color(generally white color is used for taxis). Then 5weeks passed loan approval, They called me and told a consigment of 30cars is left from Poone-Plant and it will reach after 2days and I will get the car on 3/sept/2008. And only Red color was available in LT Model. Now comes the tickle - I saw Red Color Spark-PS model on road with Kingfisher Staff and was really upset and my car would also be generalised as a Red Taxi and the only diffrence would be Number plate color.SHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhh I then dint want to call Vijai Motors and torture them again by changing the color. So I made my mind to stick to red. I was preparing and planning my day for 3/09/08 on 2/09/08, I got a call from Vijai Motors manager asking for my health and also about my fasting(as ramazan is ON) and a sudden news and apology for further delay of 15days. I got wild on him and wrote and email to GM customer support.I called the bank and asked them to withdraw the amount from the dealer and cancel the loan and decided to give stop payment for EMIs. Next day morning(3/09/08), the Vijai Motors Manager called me with a even more apologetic tone and said the cheque would be returned to bank by afternoon and was clearing Vijai motors involvement in reason for skipping the delivery. Then I was cool with him and requested him to give the reason. He told that as per the news from GM-Poone the further delay is because the container had met with an accident and all 30 Vehicles were damaged. I asked him to give me the contact details of the Head-GM in India, He hesistently gave a phone no:.i called on that no: and briefed the GM South India head about the issue and asked for the reason for skiping the commitments, he gave the same reason of accident. Now comes the mazaa, I asked him to give the registration Nos of the Vehicle conatainer which met with and accident and accused him of mis-allocating vehicles to other dealers and lying me of accident. I threatend him to further escalate the issue at my own expenses and also meet GM head for Indian operation and I also demanded a letter/email under cc to his boss explaning the reson for delay. The gentlemen was very upset about my behaviou and he asked me to give 1 day’s time. I got a call on next morning (4/9/08)from Vijai Motors congratualting and giving 8/9/08 as date for delivery as 6 and 7 was saturday and sunday respectively.I heard that only 1 Vehicle in container was despatched. And to my surprise I got a Black color LT delivered to me on 8/9/08 at 4PM and a remote locking system as complementary from dealer with some samll gifts to my daughter. I am very happy with car and have clocked 1800KMs in just 22days. I have also got the fist service done. I have only 2 problems with my Cars now:1. The gear shift from Neutral to 1st is hard and sometime the gear does not engaged until I leave half clucth.2. Engine is somtimes misfiring while i move in traffic from 0(zero). I complained on first service but the problem is still there. they have asked me to leave the vehicl at work shop to 1 full day. Overall a good car-----------------Dear MS Members, First of all compliments to the founders & managers of this website. This website is a symbol & guardian of democracy & knowledge for the customers & consumers of India. When I had to switch from Old Maruti Van to some new small car, only Alto was in the mind as an affordable alternative. But when I came across the advertisement about the 2.66 lac offer for Chevrolet Spark, I got attracted to it. As getting a 1000 cc car for the price a little more than of an Alto was quite appealing. I read almost all the reviews on Spark in MS. I also browsed the websites like Carwale, Zigwheels, Carazoo, AutocarIndia and went through the expert & user reviews in them. All this led me to conclude my search and close in on the new small car looking like a promising baby in the car family of Indian market. Thereafter I test drove the car at Pune & then at Ahmedabad. The comfort, silence, build & the utility features were quite sufficient to make the final decision to purchase the car. Even then I was quite apprehensive about the delivery promises of the dealers. All of them very confidently or I should say very hypocratically said that the car shall be delivered in 10-20 days. The dealer in Ahmedabad where I booked the car, also wrote in the order form, 20 days. I deposited the initial nominal booking amount on 31st of August, 2008. I made a mistake of believing the delivery promise of the dealer and sold out my old vehicle. Whenever I called the marketing person about the possible date of the deliver yduring these twenty days, he always used to promise to call back in a day or two and tell about the possible date, but never called back. I had to call him again just to know that still 20 days or month shall take to deliver the car. When I got him the contact no. of the manager of dealer at Ahmedabad and called him on his mobile, he didn’t even care to pick up the phone. How callous, indifferent & insensitive people have been selected by GM to sell this new product. When the dealer is least bothered at the stage of booking and pending delivery to the customer, it is everyone’s guess that what would be the fate of the customers when they will be (if & when) finally delivered this beautiful baby named Spark which is born to arrogant, indifferent & insensitive parents! One more aspect is worth discussing here. Although the GM is focusing on 2.66 lac price in the advertisements, but GM is not interested in selling the first model (base model) which is priced at 2.66 lac. After harassing the customers who have booked the first model, they pressurise them to go for other higher models if they need the car without further waiting. Matiz was also was a baby and died an infant death. It got new parents & new name. But now this new-born baby Spark may also not shine as its name suggests. If it happens, it shall be only because of the wrong selection of dealers & wrong promises of delivery schedule of the GM India. It shall prove to be a very good product with a very very poor service support. I shall appreciate other MS members if they share their experience about the time the GM took to deliver Spark after booking in the offer of 2.66 lac. I have finally cancelled my booking of Spark. I think I am saved from many years of hardship & stress that could have been caused because such an arrogant company which is very indifferent to customers’ needs & the commitments given to them. The dealers are also carefree and not very much concerned to the needs & situation of the consumers!ashok. Many of my friends in Delhi have a GM vehicle & service’s is very satisfactory. Dunno about Pune.. --------------I heard that new GM vehicles are only for people who change cars very frequently, and I wondered why. Now I know from my first hand experience with Spark LT. I got the delivery in the first week of December 2007. First the good stuff:The car is good, in fact the best in the segment (better than Estilo, WagonR, Santro) in terms of looks and comfort. I’ve driven more than 2000 KM in the last 2 months, and am satisfied with my choice. Spark looks great. Even though it looks small, it has comfortable space for 4, and can fit 5 people without being too uncomfortable. The boot is really small, but only daredevils will go far from a big city in a General Motors car, with practcally non existant service network in India.I’m getting about 14 KM/litre without A/C in Delhi/Noida traffic. Will know about milege with A/C only in summers. Though not great, the milege is OK considering the comfort levels. The dashboard is quite good, and gives the feeling of a big car for driver and front passenger. Once you sit in a Spark, you’ll understand what I mean. The shock absorbers do their job just fine. The engine is absolutely silent, and though not peppy enough for speed devils, comfortably keeps the vehicle abreast with any other car of its category. The cabin filters out the outside noise very effectively, and once you roll up the windows, gives very nice insulation from traffic noise. Kudos to GM engineers. There are small storage spaces all around, and I’m happy in general with these. Now starts the bad part:The warranty offered by GM is useless. Workshops/dealerships are not interested in doing any work for which they are not getting payment. Do not expect them to do anything during free services except changing engine oil. And being a GM vehicle, you cannot get it serviced anywhere else like Maruti’s and to some extent Hyundai’s. All the staff is more or less always busy in handling new business, and serving existing customers is the least of the priorities at GM.GM boasts a helpline (30308080), but all the helpline people do is forward the complaint to the nearest dealer and you are back to square one. GM only believes in making good vehicles, and selling them using good marketing people. What they do not believe in is to maintain brand loyalty amongst customers by providing service and honouring warranty provided for vehicle.Hence I’ve reached the conclusion that unless1) you have a driver to take care of small issues with the car, or2) You can dump the present car, and buy a new one the moment the present car develops a snag. The central console clock in my car is defective, and all my attempts to get it fixed have failed over last 2 months. In my humble opinion, it is not worth buying a vehicle from GM, even if it happens to be good, because, unlike many things, a car is something for which you will need constant support and service from the manufacturer. And if the manufacturer happens to believe in only selling, and not servicing afterwards, all the initial pleasure turns into nightmare sooner or later. If anyone has better experience with GM dealerships, I am most interested in knowing about that.----------------------------Update on 2nd Feb 2009:After total of 14 months and 17500 KM, I’m happy to announce that the car didn’t develop any new defect except the original manufacturing defects (central console clock, useless A/C). My console clock was fixed after 4 months of pestering. I still have to make do with a nearly useless A/C. Actually, the problem is that engine heat mixes with A/C air, making it less cool. As per my knowledge, this is a defect in many Spark cars, and on pestering the dealers, they replace A/C gas, without any improvement, since the problem is not A/C, but mixing of engine heat with air, after it has been cooled. As a side effect, the cabin is comfortably warm in winters with just the air circulation on, but too warm even with A/C on full time in summers.I remain impressed with low cabin noise, good ride quality and engine performance. Only if GM India had better dealers, and shown some commitment to honor their car warranty, they would be selling many more cars.I’m changing my product recommendation to yes, assuming that not many Sparks will be delivered with manufacturing defects.Purchase Price (INR): 380000 Dealer Name and City: Regent Automobiles Model Year: 2007 How useful was this review? This is my second car and was chosen for the city ( bangalore - synonymous for bad traffic he he he). I had decided for this car after the test drive of Wagon R, Santro. Both the WR and Santro have a bad dashboard design that look outdated. WR looks old and boxed. Santro is zippy , but the vibrations are felt in the steering wheel, has a bad rear suspension, also i care for the brand name and image. The best i love about Spark is the good looks and decent yet distinct interiors. A very quiet and refined engine, A/C is good. he he he From this low-stress car –even after comparing with Santro’s engine. However, the engine pick-up speed is comparatively slower than the initial excitement it manages to infuse in drivers: zero to hundred comes at 15.93 seconds as the force is delivered with less of a vengeance as required, when full passenger capacity is reached and the AC is on, though overtaking may require a switch into lower gear for smoother performance, i’ll warn you. on highway it can meet Honda civic but this is small car. let it be. he he he At highway speeds and is less prone to suffering adversely when faced with cross-winds, so enviable ride-quality for hatchbacks is guaranteed for all passengers in the Spark. I hope the mileage given is with AC on . In city it should not give less than 13 km with AC on . What is the experience of other members in this regard. fun_loving_guy said:Feb 06, 2008 12:33 AMi think the writer is a kittle confused, whether to write a serious review or keep laughing for god knows what reason, and thats how this review loses its credibility. state_secretary said:Feb 17, 2008 11:28 AM..such a happy guy....he he....i bet he will be happy with any car in this world....he he he FROM S.NEELAMEGAMI HAD BOOKED MY SPARK MODEL LS ON OCTOBER 18 , 2007 AT "ANAMALAIS AGENCIES, COIMBATORE" THE DEALERS WERE VERY CUSTOMER FRIENDLY, COOPERATIVE AND PROMISED ME TO DELIVER THE CAR WITHIN 45 DAYS AND THEY DID IT WHAT THEY SAID. THEY DIDNT GIVE ANY ATTRACTIVE OFFERS LIKE VEHICLE WILL BE DELIVERED WITHIN THE NEXT DAY OR SO ON... THEY KEPT THEIR PROMISE. THE MANNER IN WHICH THEY DEALT WITH CUSTOMERS LIKE US WAS EXCELLENT. EVEN AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS DELIVERED THEY WERE CONTACTING ME REGULARLY TO ENQUIRE ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE CAR. Now to say about the car. i dont want to say each & every bit looks great,super...... to put it in a simple words in any chevy car not just spark u can expect more from it and it gives immense pleasure to drive the vehicle of worlds no 1 company which has been in the buisness for nearly a century and it is an undisputed fact to say that other car/ automobile companies are following it. take for eg our favourite spark, it is the first vehicle in the segment ( even i 10 was introduced later..) to give us tubeless tyres, remote tailgate /fuelgate release, complete monoform design, tailor welded blanks, gas filled dampers, door ajarwarning lamp........the list goes on. the mileage(17kmpl on highway), ride and handling is best in its class and it gives a lot for ur pocket.. so before buying the spark u have to just do 2 things. CHOOSE THE MODEL/COLOUR. VIRTUALLY SPARK IS THE REAL KING OF SMALL CARS . dont just rely on autocar/metroplus/overdrive. they are just there to guide you a certain extent... note: autocar rating for spark/santro/i10 ==8/10S.NEELAMEGAM Purchase Price (INR): 3,59,687 Dealer Name and City: Anamalais agencies/ coimbatore Model Year: 2007 How useful was this review? Every time I contact the dealer (Sundaram motors, chennai), they will push the delivery date by 2 weeks!!! I finally decided to cancel the bookings and go for a Maruti car. Now the dealer is saying that I will not get interest for 2 months waiting period. They say that GM policies say so. This is not fair by any standards. No wonder people always go for Maruti product. GM will never win the hearts of Indians!!! sunil8089 said😀ec 31, 2007 03:24 AMYes, Pradeep, Sundaram Motors is the worst automobile dealer in India. I never even think of getting a product from them. Dear customers, please avoid Sundaram if you have any other options. They think customers are nuts and still follows 19th centaury policies. Spark is a great car, but it is just like a flower in the hands of a monkey. GM has some production constraints, but the way in which these dealers behave may make this product fail. -----------
