MUMBAI: DTH operators will not be able to charge any fee for visits or repair and maintenance work of the consumer premises equipment during the warranty period in cases where there have been outright purchases.
The service providers also can't change the composition of their subscription packages during the first six months of enrolment or the validity period of a prepaid subscription package (whichever is longer), a Trai regulation on the quality of service (QoS) for DTH said today.

If there is any alteration, DTH operators will have to proportionately reduce the subscription charges for a package from which any channel is removed. They could also replace the channel with a channel of the same genre and language.
DTH service providers have the option of selecting a channel of the same genre and language which has become unavailable on the DTH platform.
Subscribers will, however, have the option of choosing the package with reduced charges or the package with the replaced channel.


In its latest amendment to the QoS regulations, Trai has asked the operators to give a prior notice of 15 days before changing the composition of any subscription package.
Further, DTH operators will have to entertain requests of DTH subscribers for suspension of services. But the suspension period should not exceed three months and not comprise part of a calendar month.
In the wake of a rapidly growing DTH industry, Trai felt the need to amend the 2007 DTH Broadcasting Services (Standards of Quality of Service and Redressal of Grievances) Regulations.

Good news for Direct-to-Home (DTH) subscribers - Considering the many grievances that subscribers have with regards to the DTH operators, TRAI, or Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, has made some amendments in the Quality of Service and Redressal of Grievances regulations for DTH Services.

This calls for DTH subscribers to know about the following new rules.

1. No visiting or repair and maintenance charges of DTH equipment during warranty period.

TRAI: The DTH operators have been prohibited from charging any fee towards visiting charges or repair and maintenance charges of DTH Consumer Premises Equipment during the period of warranty for such DTH Consumer Premises Equipment acquired on outright purchase basis.

Outright purchase is not available atleast for few equipments irrespective of the DTH. Everything termed as free in Sun direct, Dish, lnb and cables are free in Tata Sky, STB is on rent in Dish tv and so on.

So for equpiments under 'rent' who is liable for repairs? DTH people I think.
For equpiments under warranty they anyway can't charge for service visits. Have you heard TV under warranty charging visiting charge?

Others things are good 🙂 They should implement it soon than waiting for suggestions from the DTH operators.
 
Where is ala carte pricing that was made mandatory by TRAI more than a year ago? 😢I think it was to be made applicable from Jan 2008.

I think it was to be made applicable from Jan 2008.

The broadcasters were told by TRAI to provide alacarte and all boquet options to the DTH operators. DTH operators were not so mandated to provide the same type of option to customers. But the present consultancy paper on DTH pricing asks for opinion on whether such option is needed and CAS pricing for DTH is required.

But I have to mention him whenever I talk about DTH. Some members are angry against me and think I bash only Tata Sky. For them 🙂
