The new service enables Airtel Broadband customers to retain the existing email ID from other ISPs and allows them to send outgoing emails with the same email address.

does it help in recieving mails on those mail ids?
 
u can send and recive mails thru airtel pop and smtp servers wether its vsnl or any other isp account u have
 
U mean I can now send (relay) mails of my Vsnl pop account while connected on AirtelBB? earlier it never used to happen so had to switch connections to send mails for VSNL.

And if true then I guess I can keep the senders id as xyz@vsnl.com rather than specify the replyTo option to xyz@vsnl.com????

Later Additions---- hmmm just checked the relay site.. well technically they are getting you to signup with them and mapping the other isp's login info to the your airtelBB info.....dicy as they are saving the password into their db......umm i am skeptic!!!

well the passwords be stored in there database as encrypted only.... so....
 

but still why u will need to use this service to do it when you can just use the pop/smtp server of your provider
 
I am yet to understand why anyone would use ISP e-mail addresses when amazing services like Yahoo and Gmail are available for free... and if I am not mistaken, Gmail even offers POP access.... so why???
 
+1but ur forgetting the fact that people are stuck with old mail ids like they are stuck with old telephone numbers. distributed all around the place and you never know who might want to contact you at ur older number/mail id.
 
heck yea. im still using my hotmail address thanks too so many people and relatives having it. sigh

they mention that airtel users are 'allowed' to register just one relaying address, but (test for yourself and see) that's not the case.as long as authentication is enabled, one can use relay.airtelbroadband.in to set the "from:" as anything.

Well,some sites require an isp or .edu email for registering and stuff.
