BSNL
Hello,We used to connect using the initial password which BSNL provides with new accounts. We never changed this password, but did change the portal password. Last few days we are unable to connect - the error message is "Authentication failure". Does BSNL automatically reset the default password after sometime if the user doesn't do it?

Never.

Never.

Hmm, then why all of a sudden we're seeing authentication failures?
The pppoe password was not changed on our computer.

Let me tell you something. Off late there is an increase in login failures. I have experienced that here in Pune for 4 times in this week itself.First, check if your password is correct. (If choose store password, when you set the connection) Download RockXP tool and see what is the stored password.Second, if above does not work, call up NIB office and ask them to check. Most of the local exchnages also have test people. (these people can test your connection from exchnage see if all is ok.)The way you can manage these govt people, is that keep numerous complains, make numerous call!! If possible go to local exchnage and get hold of test people!!

Portal password , connection password and webmail password -----these three are not related to each other.

We contacted BSNL office - they were able to connect using username and password in their office. But same thing does not work from home. The error shown is "authentication failure". What should be next step?

We had BSNL reset the password, and now the connection works. I don't know why the password got messed up..On an unrelated note, I see a number of "Timeout waiting for PADO packets" before the connection is established. Is that expected?

The timeouts may have been due to modem not being switched on before booting the computer. The error messages are from plog output (on linux).

I am still trying to figure out this password weirdness:S. BSNL said they had reset the password, but the new password is not clear in the cryptic SMS they sent. Anyway, I was able to connect without changing the password on my computer. So have they really changed the password? Is it possible that BSNL allows you to connect with old password for sometime even after changing it?
