This is a bit of a long story, bear with me please.I signed up for MTNL's Triband back in April 2004 (when it was being marketed as ADSL and was being trialled in a few exchanges in Mumbai). Back then the billing for most plans were time-based and not download-based as they are now. I was allotted something called PLAN_RA, which gave me 40 hours of monthly usage for Rs 500 (plus about Rs 75 as modem rent or some such; I don't remember the exact details -- there was no paperwork and it was too long ago). I've been on this plan ever since. I thought of moving over to one of the new plans but kept putting it off since most of my internet use happens at work and this connection is mostly for weekend surfing at home and I couldn't bear the thought of the running around it would involve. Finally, in November 2005 I applied to move to DSL 399. The work order went through and was executed (or so I am told by the monkeys at the local exchange, and they showed me their online system proving so) but when I check my account details on register.mtnl.net.in it still shows as PLAN_RA.My latest (bi-monthly) bill is an outrage -- Rs 4000 approx, when my usage for both the months concerned (November and December) has not been over 55 hours each. Another thing is, the speed I'm getting is something like 64kbps. I think that's part of this blasted PLAN_RA. I've been calling 1504 / the local QCSC / local exchange forever and nobody does a thing about it.It's turned into a nightmare. When I call to complain, nobody at MTNL knows what PLAN_RA is. When I asked 1504 for usage details for November (which are not available online anymore), they say its 0 MB. Obviously, since all plans are now charged on the basis of downloads, their software doesn't reflect this time-based shit that I'm on (though when I log in via register.mtnl.net.in, it shows me the number of hours billed). What I need to do is 1) get the plan changed properly once and for all, 2) get the bill corrected. From taking a quick look at this forum I think the best thing to do would be to make a trip to the Prabhadevi exchange to get the plan change issue sorted out. Not sure about the bill, though. Do I need to get that done at Prabhadevi as well? Does anyone have the name/numbers of the Broadband GM (I'm sure there's no point emailing?). From talking to the local exchange idiots I've got a bunch of numbers of random AGMs and GMs, none of which seem to work.Any help appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read.

read the important links pinned at the beginning of this forum. it contains a lot of useful links including telephone nos. of imp. mtnl staff. yes, prabhadevi is the main center here in mumbai. so u shud take all ur probs regarding the plan and bill over there. its true that mtnl will make u run around a lot but if u r lucky ur probs might get solved even in 2-3 days!!! as i said, luck plays a big role in bills and hassles with mtnl. so best of luck!

Hi,I am not at all surprised to see the problems you have faced.Whenever I have an issue with MTNL, I simply write an email to their top boss i.e. Executive Director with a CC to incharge of the exchange concerned and GM VAS and to TRAI as well. Twice I have had a problem and on both the occasions my problems were solved within 8 hours without any calling or running around here and there.Very recently I changed my plan to 590 NU. The application for the same was given to Sanchar Haat on 21st Dec and I was assured that on 1st Jan it will be changed. On 1st when I checked up, it was not surprising to see that the plan had not been changed. I was expecting this. Immediately I wrote an email to all the guys I have mentioned above and on 2nd morning it had been changed.Although you feel that there is no point in emailing them, I suggest you to give it a try. No harm in doing that. But yes for getting the bill recetified, you might have to personally visit them.Cheers

Here is a simple trick to check your accounts for the prev months (earlier than Dc 2K5).Select 01 Jan 2K5 in the first option and select a date later than today for the second option. Lo and behold you will get a full year (when ever you started on the plan) data. Figure. Print the dang thing. They may see the loophole and close it. It better to keep a softcopy too. I use print to PDF.For the rest of the stuff, take this copy and talk to Mr. Agarwal -GM Broadband. Ask for his mail ID and send him the stuff. the guy helps usually in a few days.I had some problems solved through Mr. Agarwal.Cheerio

hey akshay, even i changed my plan to NU from jan 1(well thts wht they told me). but when i checked it didnt change on the 1st, but on the 2nd it was changed, n i didnt go anywhere nor did i tell anyone. i guess they took a holiday on the 1st of jan.

Hi viralbug,Maybe yes you are right. 1st of Jan was Sunday and it was a holiday. But I did make one call to 1504 to check the status and they had no clue as to why it had not been done. So I wrote an email. I guess I was too impatient but I also had fears that if it had not been done, then I might have to wait for one more month (start of next billing cycle).Recently I changed my Airtel broadband plan in my office (in Noida). I just had to make one phone call. They informed me that it will be done within 5 days. After 5 days I got a call from them confirming that the plan had been changed. You can never expect this kind of service from MTNL.Cheers..

Thanks for the advice, everyone. Does anyone have this Agarwal's email id?dowgMac: Tried what you suggested about the billing details and it didn't work for me, unfortunately.
