Hey guys, finally got Airtel connection here. I am on Economy Combo plus Night Top Up pack, that lets me have 10 hrs of day browsing per month and unlimited night time browsing (9 pm to 8 am).I ran few speed tests at speakeasy.net. The speed during evening was around 200 kbps but after midnite, it was around 400 kbps!! And my plan speed is 256 kbps. Now for the questions that I have.1. Since I am on an hourly package, I asked the airtel guys to make my connection is such a way that I have to dial to get online. Now the problem is that I do I configure my *dail up* to dial at 9 pm and logoff at 8 am?? Also the connection disconnects at night automatically, how do I let it stay up? Any s/w you guys use for this?2. Any software to keep a track of my hourly and b/w usage since I cannot see any usage for my account at north.touchtelindia.net. I dont want to exceed my 10 hrs of daytime usage as after that they charge Rs. 30/hr.

the night time is 10:30 not frm 9 😕 , check the airtel site

Yes, the night time is from 10:30 pm to 6:30 am but for normal packages. For Top Up packages, the night time is from 9 pm to 8 am. I have double checked with the Airtel Customer Care.

Why didn't you opt for the unlimted plan and be free of all this hassle ?..unlimted with airtel is pretty much that.

Coz the current package I am on (Economy Combo + Night Top Up) costs me 700 bucks whereas unlimited 256 kbps costs 1000 bucks. With this plan I also get 100 pulses of free voice calls. I do not need 24x7 connection as I am at college from 9 to 5.

Didnt mean to double post but can someone please answer my original post and the questions contained in it?

u need a software that automatically dials u up at 10:30 @ night and logs u off at 6:30 in the morning??? i dont think i know of any such software... the only thing u can do is put ur dial up connection in startup,so incase u start the pc up @ night the dialup window will come up...nd keeping track of daily usage...man this was the ONLY reason i chose unlimited plan..better to pay 300bucks mre than get cheated by the usage!!

If you are on Windows XP, you can do it easily using 'rasdial'. Google for it. I used rasdial to dial and disconnect automatically when I was on Windows XP. B)

In addition if I am not mistaken you can just configure the dialup connection to auto-dial in case it gets disconnected. I believe this happens when you go into Control Panel | Internet Options | Connections and set your dial-up to "Always dial my default connection." ... of course the downside it that it would redial 24x7 which is not what you need.... so I guess my suggestion is really quite useless.... nevermind.Just get unlimited internet especially if you download music/movies/ any other large files regularly (or anticipate getting into that habit in the near future). It's just Rs. 300 more, and believe me it's worth the headache you avoid and the convenience you consequently obtain.... having to calculate the hours you use for the internet and worrying about whether you would go over the limit or not is just a downright unecessary hassle and a waste over everyone's time and effort. If Rs.300 is an issue, which really is a valid issue if such be the case, just go for the 128 kbps unlimited package.... same price as your current connection I believe.
