Thinking of living in Bangalore for a few months

there are frequent failures in power during summer, almost 3 hrs a day
cheers

That's the funny thing about BLR, there is no summer, there are only 2 periods, raining or not raining. It gets slightly cooler towards the end of the year. Not that you would notice it much of you are used to snow. The so called summer is the period before the rains begin. It's actually not that hot during the monsoons, as it cools the place up, cant wait as its getting sticky here atm.

3hrs u can manage with a decent APC UPS (made locally i might add).

its hot nowadays...... but nothing compared to chennai

if u still wanna come ,
then theres mysore about 150 kms from bangalore,
mysore has the same whether as bangalore, so no worries
but the cost of everything like real estate is 10% to bangalore
[/b]

I think this is a classic samall / big town problem.

If you stay in a small town then cost of living is less but finding a well paying IT Job is difficult 🙁

This is why i hear some big companies are trying to move to Mysore. They will get what they pay for.

Than other cities, in India, Blore looks some what expensive...Look into that aspect.

I have the opportunity to move to Bangalore from the US and was wondering what life was like there? I would like to know things like what American TV stations do you recieve, Can you buy beef and drink the water ETC. I have never been outside of the US and have done some research on the City but I get mixed reviews on every website. Please help with more info. Thanks.

Bangalore is one of the most "Western" cities in India. It has its share of issues like pubs closing early, but has amazing rock culture.

You CAN NOT drink tap water. You need to install water purifiers to make it potable.

You can get good quality raw/ground beef in stores. It is best to buy it frozen (and imported).

Mixed reviews are right on the spot. Be prepared for some cultural shok, but overall Bangalore is a city you should be able to adjust to in a couple of months.

We receive most international TV stations. We dont receive American only TV stations. Yes, you get beef and you can drink the water but not directly. You need to install water purifiers. But I guess that is required everywhere in the world.

AXN, CNN, Discovery, ESPN ,Hallmark, HBO, History Channel, MTV, Nat Geo, VH1.

Non-American ones like BBC & Star Movies too, Z Cafe, Star World, but they show lots of American serials & movies. We are a season behind with many serials just like any place outside the US. If you must get the very latest, you might as well bring a slingbox with you. Best affordable internet speed you will find here is marketed as 256k but in reality gives you 200-220kbs. Not sure how latency dependent slingbox is, so if it has an option to save stuff for download later that woudl be ideal.

Beef, yeah you can get that (Thanks to the muslims) . I'd bring some good cooking knives with you as it can be sinewy or get it ground/minced. Many ppl opt for veal instead as its easier/cheaper to deal with. But frozen meat (which is the only thing you will find in supermarkets) isn't tasty enough, then you might have to look around for a local butcher or go to the meat market in the city. The one in the city you have to go early in the morning, and is quite an experience, not anywhere as clean as what you are used to, but fresh and at the best price.

Steak...hmm, few restaurants do it, the best here is prolly avg compared to what you are used to (assuming you like steak).

No..

But is there a problem with tap water in the United States? Not according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which reports that more than 90 percent of water systems in the country exceed standards.[/b]
