Hi Guys, I have recently applied for a MTNL DSL NU Broadband Plan . Has anybody setup this on a linux box . I have Debian Sarge Distro. I was using the pppoe setup from roaring penguin for my previous ISP (pacenet) . if someone could give me the steps on how to go about it . I plan on using the ethernet card for the connection . also Is it necessary to have your computer and phone in the same room ?.

unless u got a really long wire from the phone-line to the router...u can use mtnl from Amsterdam if u want? 😛

doesnt matter if phone is in differnet room!
welcome to phorum..!
it sux that mtnl does not giv tech support to linux ppl!

yups!! .. we linux ppl are always Underprivileged when it comes to matters like this ! ..

well i don't think there is much to it. Once the dsl modem is setup u just need to configure the lan card on your linux system.....only dhcp needs to be enabled, that takes care of ip address/subnet mask/gateway/dns servers from the dsl router.

thanks a lot .. will try it out

I have a MTNL DSL NU connection.I wish to cross over from Windows to linux, thinking of installing Mandriva.Problem is my ADSL is connected on a USB port, becoz the ADSL doesnt work when connected to the Ethernet port.I have a Intel 915GAV motherboard.I recently ran Knoppix 3.2 from a live CD and my onboard sound, ethernet card were not even detected. So, I,now, want to know if there is any way of knowing whether my ADSL will work on Mandriva when I have installed it on my Barracuda hard disk?

I think USB may not work in Linux. But why doesnt your ethernet port work? Get your router replaced in that case.

Hmm, I connected the router to my ethernet port and it did work, I just had never tried it b4 with this motherboard(Intel 915GAV)But, it anywayz didnt work in Knoppix 3.2.On starting the ADSL/PPPoe configuration, it said no working Ethernet cards are found. So I tried to locate a driver manually, and even managed to install one successfully. It still cudnt connect to the network. Is there some command Im supposed to give at the boot prompt for it to autodetect all ethernet cards(external or onboard) ?

Have you tried Ubuntu Livs CD? Generally it detects most commaon Onboard LAN cards. If it does detect LAN card then you can find out which driver is being used and use the same driver with Mandiva linux.
