what exactly happens in a firmware update? netfreak i read u upgraded..does it grab from net...how big is it??how much time does it take??

You have to download the firmware and upload it to the router.

To explain in context of a PC, it is similar to formatting Flash memory and re-installing OS + Supporting programs (e.g. Web based config utilities).

Normally it does not take more then a few minutes. Size is less then 1 MB. Do not remember exact size. You can download it from this page:

I am assuming you are using a D-Link (most MTNL subscribers do).

the Firmware actually contains factory settings for the router / modem and the software to drive your router. Loads of bug fixes and stuff you know.

You can get it at http://www.dlink.co.in/dlink/drivers/view.asp?tab=DSL-502T

Before you upgrade check your firmware. If you have V2.00B01T01.ML.20050530 then don't bother.

Go to > modem page -> http://192.168.1.1 for the firmware info.

It's a weeny bit more than 3 megs.

BTW note down your config settings. Saving wont' help in case you are upgrading the firmware. After you are done reset the config and you are on.

It's a 3m File ...Don't go for online upgrade firmware!!!I have a bad experience!!!If the transmissin stops then u got to take router to Service center!!!---->I have my own Router!!!For Mtnl router just call 1504!!!I think safest way is to take it to the service center---[Own Router] firmware upgrade!!!

Do NOT try the Upgrade Utility ...trust me..

ok! i need to lie down now! 😱

be careful while upgrading the firmware. preferably use a UPS while upgrading. because if the power goes off or fluctuates while upgrading then you may kill the router.

As i said going to service center U can make router LIVE again!!Trust me I had screwed my router!!!!Then got it fixed in 10 minutes at service center!

If you are going to replace it then you might as well give this image a try 😉

If its on rental, you can do pretty much as long as it physically looks okay. MTNL own the router and its their job to keep it working.Just don't tell them what you did. All you say it, it was working fine till morning... 😉
