Yes I read about this बाबू scheme yesterday in Rajasthan Patrika as well.

Since I couldn't find a news article online or mention in the BSNL news section yesterday, so I didn't start a thread. Good investigative work to extract this information from BSNL site.

This is unfair scheme and corruption. Why are बाबू so damn special that they should get 20% off in Dataone charges? :frown:

But then again how meaningful is the scheme for a serving बाबू? Most departments provide a telephone connection for free or on concession already. The grandchildren of retirees will benefit, cheaper porn downloads for them.

BSNL must be desperate to make up their subscriber numbers... I hope the govt/regulators force them to unbundle local loop to allow private operators to provide their DSL on the same BSNL landlines 😀

Dear Vishalrao,BSNL is not afraid of Unbundle the local loop.. this will increase revenue of BSNL as well as competing with best private players on the same terms, improve their services..there are 25 million k.m.length copper wires under this very soil to be shared by every one so the BB reaching the masses at cheap rates will come true. This will also stop the mindless cutting of bsnl cables rendering whole city services imobilised by the private players/their agents will come to stop..But for this noble idea what were the steps taken by the TRAI to ensure the level playing fields...Let us relook the history...When the new Telephone policy was announced in the ninty, and mobiles services were started DOT(present day BSNL) was not allowed to enter the mobile services.. it was after four years of wilderness BSNL was allowed with lot of restriction ( even it was Government Department).. One of the conditions put for the private players are they have to cover the rural areas where DOT/BSNL telephonenet works was not present...So within ten years all the villages in India has the connectivity.. but in reality.. just a measly 0.1% was covered by them every year.. On the other hands they compete in urban areas get fat profits..only BSNL is left with providing spending Rs30000/- per connection which will yield only Rs158/- (average income perconnection per month)incurring heavy loss to it (BB services,Mobile services offset this loss and give profit)..BSNL is now not a Govt dept why it is only incurred to make loss for the sake of Private players.?? this is the question where If without proper guidances let the Local loop to go...As per TRAI instruction rural area are yet to be connected by BB, so the reason for unbundling the local loop is the same...But the private players will repeat the same story, again promising to give rural connection and once unbundling happen, then, they will all properly compete in urban areas only and let the BSNL lose it urban are share and push it out of market even out of race since concentrating only rural areas where no income will decimate the BSNL effectively....Actually the article speak about 20% discount given to GOVT/PSU employees in the BB charges.. we should have discussed.. but since U raised a subject not concerned with this post I was forced reply on this point with regards, vaithy.

This only applicable to BSNL subscribers..BSNL and MTNL are different organisations!vaithy

great move:rofl:

Does this apply to subscribers who've paid the amount in a single one-time annual payment before the circular came out?

My brother own's telephone connection ( i.e. bill comes against his name) and my father is retired state govt employee. So can I use this discount?
