Hi,I live in Ahmedabad and I took Sify a couple of weeks ago and am satisfied with it. the speed is not very much faster than dial up but then I took the 64kbps connection and so I wasn’t expecting very high speed anyway. However, some days ago I had the problem that my computer kept giving me the message it was infected by a Trojan horse. My tech came, uninstalled my AVG antivirus, installed his Trend Micro and ran it and after that I have not had any message informing me of a Trojan horse. But yesterday, Sify rang up and told me they could see my computer had viruses and they told me to unplug their cable and run a virus check because if I didn’t unplug the cable first, the virus would still remain in the computer and would affect them or other users; he wasn’t very clear which. My question is: is it possible that if I continue to use Sify, my computer will keep getting viruses? Is it possible that I may get viruses from the other computers in my area that share the same Sify connection? After all, if my virus could affect others, then it stands to reason that viruses other computers get would be transmitted to my computer. Or am I wrong and there is no way I could get a virus from another computer because we share the same Sify connection?I don’t visit many sites on the net and don’t download music, films, or anything much. So I don’t think I should be at a large risk for viruses.I need to know whether continued use of Sify will result in increased risk of viruses. my term will end in a couple of weeks and so I will have to decide whether to continue with Sify or take something else. Should I go for bsnl broadband? Has anyone here tried bsnl and if so, what were the results? Did you get viruses because of bsnl?I would prefer to continue with Sify because as I said, I am quite satisfied with it. It has been down only twice so far and for a short time. otherwise it gives me consistent service. But I’m worried about the virus problem and so need to know whether or not Sify is increasing my exposure to viruses. Is it that any cable connection would allow more viruses in than any broadband you get through the phone? I have been told that viruses come more frequently through cable than any other connection. But I was also told the faster your connection, the more easily a virus can get through and as I said, my Sify connection can hardly be called fast. Thanks in advance for your reply.
