Airtel now targets Eastern India

Leading mobile phone service provider Airtel has now plans to extend their reach in the eastern Indian region. Bharti Tele Ventures Limited Joint Managing Director Rajan Bharti Mittal said in a statement today that they plan to introduce wireless broadband technology in Eastern India. They believe that the market has huge investment potential and plans to take on the emerging industries in the region.

Well Max bhai Eastren India will be a testing sector for Wi-Max! After finishing the testing they will sure expand it to all over India! Hmmm.....wonder if Airtel is planning to invest the Newly purchased SEA-ME-WE-4 International Bandwidth on Wi-Max or is Airtel gonna upgrade the esisting network? 🤔Lets hope that Airtel upgrades its existing lines and then step into a new technology! Dunno wht Mr.Mittal is planning to do! 😛

Sometime back I had mentioned in one of the posts that true broadband penetration in Indian can only happen through the WI-Max way- "Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access way" (mobile telephony is the best example).... It is just impossible otherwise to reach smaller towns and remote areas.... maintaining existing Internet infrastructure in our cities is difficult (rains, constant digging by various authorities and civic bodies, also the costs involved in laying and maintaining the cables etc). Through WI-Max you can take broadband to any part of the city, and hope that would solves the problem of all those who currently want Airtel but can't seem to get it. But I doubt they would use eastern India as a testing base, why not Southern? Northern, or Western for that matter? where the computer penetration is more. Just imagine being able to access broadband internet on the move, at any given location….endless opportunities! Hope WI-Max is for real man.Mr. Mittal is probably planning to buy the next Rolls Royce, or a nice mansion on some island…. I guess!

i think it would be better for him to get vodafone take over airtel in a way government does not object and enter into more profitable ventures. people just don't appreciate what you do for them...

With EPS of 5.14 it would be difficult to find a sector better then telecom.

He still owns part of a company where people are waiting for services to come in their area. In other sectors companies have to wait for customers.

its a well known fact that sunil mittal is investing into the agricultural field...

What about "more profitable" part.Have a look at companies in Agro field (data is public and available with router/bse/nse). Find AT LEAST one company in India with that kind of Market Cap and EPS.

since when did visionary people started innovating into newer fields looking at the failures of others? 10 years ago, who would have thought india would BE THE most competitive mobile market in the world when Airtel started its operations. Or who would have thought that Airtel would become so big? statistics are just that statistics. if you have a vision to change something, you need to have the guts to do that. bharti did it to telecom in india, it might make agriculture hot as well.

hmm...i read somewhere that Wireless may seem to be the answer to all our questions BUT in the long run, wireless actually costs MORE than wired connections AND it doesn't guarantee reliability and speeds that wired connections do... 😕

Sorry Max it's the other way around i can post links if you want me to.....wireless works out cheaper than laying cables. Mobile telephony is the best example where wireless technology has made it accessible and cheaper than landline. And don't forget that you are able to reach a much wider population through wireless technology, therefore bringing down the operating costs significantly. The reason a paanwallah or your driver can afford a phone today is because of wireless technology don't forget that. The same is the case with wireless broadband over an area. And yes it is reliable.

Wi-Max is still in its infancy, give it some more time and the costs keep coming down every year....Wi-MAx is just too attractive to ignore. I believe it is the next step that is going to provide broadband to all, especially in countries where laying physical infrastructure is cumbersome.

heh. intel is one company which has not been very smart in investing in stuff which brings good results in the end.

I agree.

But MTNL/BSNL already have laid down cables in pretty much everywhere in coutnry (at least in urban India).

So while Wi-Max can be cheaper for a new Telco, but for MTNL/BSNL using copper might be cheaper.

Now we are talking about "profitable in future". It might be profitable or might not... I don't have a crystal ball, so only time can tell.

I don't think Bharti had any major contribution in Telecom. It is just a business (and a great one I agree, I am an investor 😀 ). But on West/East/South India things worked out well even without Bharti. Even if Bharti is gone from the face of earth, some other company will come in its place.

Being selfish here.. 🙁 but in US / UK milk costs same/more then petrol. And I do not want to pay as much in India.

In UK, petrol cost is 87.1 pence (67 Rs but quality is better). Cost of Milk (Unskimmed and Organic) is .65 pounds.

In UK Petrol is cheaper (roughly INR 38 per ltr) since it practically rules the world and gets it cheap cause of that. And organic milk is costlier.

Fear the day when Indian farmer wakes up... cost of wheat might go up to 200 Rs per KG if farmers start demanding same quality of life as urban India.
