Well I really want to make Dataone section of this forum popular.

I can provide you all with any help .......Now y ask me? Answer: 1) I think I am the oldest in this connection 2nd Feb 05 ( there may be other but i don't know any)
2)I have dealt with 6 types of dataone connection ( even a @ 2MBPS one) thats why i have see all types of modem supplied by dataone.
3) I am a hardware professional ( bit of networking)
4)BUT above all I will stick to this connection in future 😀


Any new or old dataone users can contact me through this forum by posting and i will try to answer your queries.You can also PM me but i prefer posting because every one can see it then.

Please don't ask any illegal favours. I had some situation where users were asking me USER ID's and PASSword of other user.....PLZ DON"T do that!!!

HiI am swicthed to 1MBPS from 256kbps. the same UT-300R modem is used.my question is I have found frequent cuts in line. the line got disconnects frequently. i have to add any setting like ATX0 in modem.byeSiva

No you don't have to do anythig extra but remember to be in bridge mode also you can't log in with your same id in two different pc (only for 1 mbps, I have tried this and failed)
You won't be getting the maximum speed though aroung 700kbps net more than 800
 
Hi , I have BSNL Dataone connection. My Modem Type is SmartAX 882 which is having in-built firewall and NAT. The problem is that I can cannot view anybodies webcam on yahoo. Everytime I try to view it .... it says you are behind firewall. I have no firewall in my machine atleast. My OS is Windows 2000. I have tried to view webcam after turning off the NAT service from Web Console of the modem. But it still throws the same error that you are behind the firewall. What is the likely cause and what maybe the solution for this problem? I have also given permission for TCP/IP on modem webconsole so that it doesn't block on port 80 and 5100 which yahoo uses for webcam. But the problem is still persisting. Please helpsobubla

Hey sobubla try enabling the DMZ in ur ADSL modem , which is located in ur modem web configuration advanced settings. Enable it and if it asks u an IP address ,type ur pc's address which can be got from ipconfig command thru command prompt.

probably 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.3 or something closer to that.
DMZ stands for De - Militarized - Zone.This is very useful for hosting many services from ur pc like an e-mail server ,etc.

The yahoo webcam comes under these categories i think.

Keep in mind that being in DMZ will expose your PC to all kinds of virusses etc. So instal a firewall on your PC (Zonealarm is a free one). And do not allow any program to accept connections from internet unless you are sure about that program.

Even if u r connected at 256 kbps, how do u know that u r at that speed.
Speed tests provided by speed testing websites or programs are real but they are temporary.cos speeds depend on the data traffic at the ISP and internet backbones.

If u want a higher speed though, switch to higher speeds lol. 😛
 
The speed shown by the speed testing sites is not your exact speed. It's not steady speed but instantaneous speed. They use simple procedure to do this. They upload a file of a few kB (sometimes more than 1 MB) temporarily to you computer and they calculate the speed by dividing the size of data file with the time taken to complete the transfer. The speed is generally faster in the beginning of the download, as you would have noticed when you download other files. So, the accuracy depends on the size of the test file as well as the distance, congestion, bandwidth etc of the servers. The best way to know your speed it to see the speed when you are downloading a big file from a good fast server.B)

D-Link has a factory in India. So the products that are mfd in India gets better support. I personally preferred 3-com modems over any other modem when I had a dialup connection. But in ADSL connection I am using a dlink DSL 502-T for last 1 year without any hitch as it is easy to address the India specific problems with this Router. I would not suggest you go for 300T as there are unsolved issues. Visit the link for a sampling:
