The Ubuntu foundation announced yesterday the first official release of the Ubuntu Server distribution. Available for AMD64, i386, and PowerPC architectures, Ubuntu Server 5.10 provides a complete Ubuntu-based server installation ready for production environments. Developed and maintained by the Ubuntu Server Team, the new server distribution will bring the power and flexibility of the Ubuntu Linux distribution to data centers and web servers: [/b]

They weren't happy enough with dumbing down the desktop, now take it to the server!! Great going... :rolleyes:

@max:
happy? :lol:
Gonna try it with an open mind, who knows, it just MIGHT not be as bad as the desktop distro. So comments reserved for later.

X (the GUI) doesn't come up in this variant of ubuntu either.But thats not my main reason for trashing this distro - on a server, GUI should not matter.Ubuntu server lacks a truckload of essential packages again.
