Regarding Wireless Security.

Dear Members,I have been using the internet through Quidway 1003A ADSL router (Provided by BSNL). I connect the modem to the desktop via lan port. Do I need to do anything to disable the wireless connectivity, as I don't use it?Recently I got a Wi fi enabled mobile phone(Nokia N95, supports 802.11b/802.11g) and when I search for a network it is showing my modem name as an access point. So can some other person access my network in this way by hacking? What kind of precaution should I take?If I want to access the internet via the mobile phone wirelessly, will I be able to do so?Please share your opinion. Thanks.

1..Do you want to use your N95 for internet ?
Then you have to use wpa or wep security code in your WIFI router's wireless settings.

2. If you don't want to use Wireless connectivity for N95 or any other laptop
disable the wireless network in Network/Wireless Network.
Also the wifi router settings.
( see whether you get a message that this wireless network is unsecured or
needs a security code to connect )

Thanks a lot for your reply. And I am sorry for the confusion. Basically I would like to know that if I use my N95 mobile to surf internet do I need to have any antivirus and firewall software installed in the phone? Or I can use the phone without antivirus and firewall.
Besides I would also like to know how secure is wireless connection. Can anyone hack and enter in my wireless network connection and use my internet connectivity?

the firewall in your modem+ Wifi router should do.
About antivirus i am not sure and not familiar with N95 phone.
What kind of precaution should I take?
Check in Network Wireless network
does it stay the connection is secured and need security key ?
Then you are protected and others cannot access your WIFI network.
Any wireless router settings from calcutta telephones web site can be followed.

select multi user settings.
MAC address filtering can be also used.. but not absolutely necessary.
You have to post the screen shot of the router page for users here to help you.

Old threads on the subject may be available ( including a post by me ).
You may have to download some software from Nokia web site.
Still any difficulty please specify the exact problem.
