TRAI blames BSNL for stagnating broadband in India

The Indian telecom regulatory authority TRAI has finally spoken against the monopolistic practices of the state owned BSNL. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India chairman Pradip Baijal has cautioned the BSNL against any possible measures it might take to monopolize the infrastructure that can be used to give broadband a greater push.

Well yeah..there should be unbundling of the local loop..and we should have unlimited connections......But BSNL is offering plans as low as Rs.250 per month.Surely it can't be stagnating the penetration ? Unless people want unlimited or are aware of their billing errors..or perhaps don't want to deal with a PSU ?
 

Actually BSNL and VSNL should be prosecuted for unfair trade practices. VSNL is keeping bandwidth prices artificially high and BSNL is not allowing anyone to enter into the competition by keeping control of its precious local loop. *This* is stagnating the broadband penetration. People dont have _choice_. A free enconomy is all about choices and variety. Currently people dont have a choice except for BSNL and MTNL. A small fraction have the choice of going in for Airtel and another small fraction for Reliance. Reliance doesn't provide a 'broadband' connection in the real sense. I mean 300Kbps is too costly and 100Kbps cannot be classified as broadband.
 
last time i heard vsnl was not owned by the government. and i doubt you can sue private companies for following anything unless they are a monopoly.

BTW, broadband is accessible to everyone, BUT ( a BIG but) BSNL is not providing AFFORDABLE rates.

What is the use of a HIGH-SPEED connection, if i can just check my mails alone, AND have to worry about my bill??
 
ya broadband here sucks... unbundling the local loop hole .. i guess that should be done by filing a case with the supreme court eh? what say?and they should sue vsnl for being too high handed with thier prices!!
