Hi,I booked the inidicom connection, the cable was put up two days ago but no one has come and installed the modem.Wonder whether in one of the previous threads as suggested the 512 Kbps is shared between 8 people. Then it again becomes 64Kbps. 🙁Hopefully they can come and install quickly and I can post a review here of indicom, Maybe I am the last one in the loop ( my place is 2km from the last point installed by them) and I wonder : Will that affect speed?Anyone else in delhi using indicom and any results that they can post?V

B) HURRAY!I finally got my vsnl broadband connection. Yes, the engineer goofed up ... he installed the dialer in my guest account and left a document describing the username p@$$word at my guest account.so all my guesses went wrong until I found that great document!.Not complaining..too much..I logged a maximum speed of 365kbps or 45KBpsThats at evening 8Pm.Would be great to hear your thoughts

The costing worked out this way:1. 1000 Rs : 50 hrs: Unlimited downloads2. they also have packages like 875/500Mb downloadI chose option 1. Speeds are good. max I got was 400 Kbps on the microsoft site.Rest of the sites were hovering around 280-300 on an average...

what would it take for them to trust their balls enough to give out unlimited data transfer and time period connections? still stuck in the dial-up era i think...

I guess so..but the deal was better this way I thought...rather than going for a measly 500 Mb download.Touchtel didnt know when they would come in my area. Hotwire was heard as very bad 64Kbps/unlimited time/1000 Rs. And sify..I got some idea from here 🙂

Around the same time(oct 9-11), I was getting 200-270k in the night on my zee connection. After that it has gone down to 50-60k.

I just got off the phone with a Tata Indicom manager. He said in the cable internet area, there are no unlimited bandwidth plans. Just time based and traffic based.480 hours max- 5000 Rs. 12 months.6000 Rs 6 GB- 12 months. These plans are even more f**ked up than VSNL DSL.Screw it.

Hi Vijay

You got the Tata-Broadband connection on Oc-21'st, as per your post earlier.
Please help me with answers to the following questions regarding this!!

1. Now it is nearly two months. What is your consolidated experience so far?
( Available bandwidth, Reliability, Customer care etc).

2. Which was the exact package, that u choosed, & costs pm?

3. Which was the broadband-connection type? (ADSL or Cable-Internet)?
I think it is ADSL, even though you posted in this title (360 Rs cable...)

4. a. Did they wire an extra line (last mile) to your residence?
b. Was it overhead, digged up?
c. What is the cable type? Is it two-wire copper pair or Fibre-Optic?

5. What is the DSL/Cable-modem given to you?
Make- model?
Which interface: USB/ LAN ?

Thanks & Regards Valmiki

Sorry to be replying 4 months later to this post, I never saw this 🙁...anyways information might help others so here goes....

I would be a 70% satisfied customer, The speed has been consistent, advertised as 512Kbps, but thats the availability: you get 384Kbps or 52 KB/s

The line has been down only once in a while and usually someone turns up within 48 hours. They have a legacy of VSNL, so if you want to change your plan type you cannot just call and say change, even though you may supply your login info, you have to go there and fill up a form to change the plan.

2.  Which was the exact package, that u choosed, & costs pm? [/b]

>>Package was 50hrs plan . 1000 Rs + 102 Tax per month. Initial Payment was 3750 with 1000 refundable.

3. Which was the broadband-connection type?  (ADSL  or Cable-Internet)?
I think it is ADSL, even though you posted in this title (360 Rs cable...) [/b]

>>ADSL

4.  a. Did they wire an extra line (last mile) to your residence?
  b.  Was it overhead, digged up? [/b]

>> Yes they did , Its an aerial connection

    c.  What is the cable type?  Is it two-wire copper pair or  Fibre-Optic? [/b]

>> err... Looks black and has red wires inside  seems to be fibre-optic to me, not sure.

5. What is the DSL/Cable-modem given to you?
    Make- model? [/b]

>>SMC : 7003 v2.0 USB
Which interface:  USB/ LAN ? [/b]

>>USB

Well, someone has to break the jinx. And Tata with its resources and the experience of VSNL just might be it. I am optimist about this because:

Unlike Reliance which went big time with CDMA, Tata started small with Indicom and is slowly expanding the services. Tata has a better reputation of quality and service as a result. They are starting small, because they know its not as simple as it seems...

I bet you had no personal experience with Tata Indicom. Do you mean that the one+ hour of waiting at the showrooms with stupid token system, and the worst CDMA telephone service they provide, is "reputation of quality and service"?
