Airtel Broadband Question

I have a night unlimited plan (8pm - 8am). For past few months, i'm noticing that if I dont retstart modem after 8am, then whatever I download till around 11am, doesnt gets counted in my day usage. One logical explaination that i can think of is that their servers dont restart untill 11, till then acording to them, i'm still on my 8pm session (when i last restarted my modem) which is counted as night time - i.e. free time :thumbsup:So i seted up my deluge (bittorrent client) scheduler till 10am instead of 8am a week ago, and i'm cheking my usage daily on their site, and guess what ? I havn't been charged for anything between 8am and 10am :yahoo: I'm wondering how much further can I push it 😗Any volunteers thinking about testing this ?

lolzyeah i thout about that too .. but i'm taking precautions (cheking my usage daily).. they can only charge me (if they ever will) with ~600 bux (max) extra (2hrs at 60kBps = ~420mB)thats acceptable untill i get caught .. but i think of this as if i'm getting away with their 500bux (atleast) daily - for free !! well that puts a really big grin on my face 😛btw . i dont want a total unltd plan .. i dont use that much .. plus i'm getting 60+kBps for 12(+2)hrs at 550bux (with 100calls) and any of their current plans can't beat that (??).

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it does not cost Airtel Rs. 600 to provide you that data. Their net cost in providing you that 420MB is negligible. So they don't really care.

i stick to unlimited for a reason. i know what i would pay at the end of the month. downloads can take their own time. i am in no hurry. life is very long and pretty boring.

i bet he is on a faster-than-256kbs plan, so now downgrading speedwise is not too palatable, even if it is unlimited.Looks like they got a hooked customer :evil:

of course, i initially had 250kbps plan with 200mb and i gota night unltd topup and double speeds at night - which i'm still gettingso if i were to switch to that home 799 now, i'd be paying 250 more for same amount of data download. not to mention that whatever i can now download in 12hrs, would be taking 24 hrs then. i sometimes feel like i have the cheapest plan (economically) there ever was/is and i'm squeezing even more out of it. its a pretty great feeling lolzanyways i think thread is now going off topic, i was hoping if anyone else have a night plan and willing to get those extra hours can try this and post the results, though as mentioned by vebk, he must understand the risk.

I don't know if anyone's still interested, but i'm pushing it even further.

On 10th, I downloaded till 11:00 (from the night of 9th) and still continued to surf without restarting until 1:15 (when electricity went out and i couldn't keep my modem on long enough before it got back again)
Here's my usage on that day

So next day, i pushed it even further. I queued all axxo torrents (to get full speed) and d/led till 12 noon. As you can see on last line, I've downladed ~3.5gB which can be downloaded at 60kBps in not less than 16hrs (8pm-12n). Best part - it shows 0.0 as Amount charged

I'm also thinking of making a bash script, that stores your IP address assigned to you prior to 8am, and after each 5-10 minutes interval checks your IP again, and matches it with that fetched before 8am. If it finds a difference in both, it terminates the torrent client.
Basic logic is that if IP changes, it means that your session has been restarted and you should stop all downloading.
(I assume that the chances of getting same IP in different consecutive sessions are rare)

If anyone knows how to assign your router's IP address to a variable in bash script, please enlighten me. 🙂
