Hi guys,

I'm from Delhi, Just today i got my Wireless (i don't know if i can call it a router or not) Model # T-KD 318-EW .. It has just 1 Ethernet port.. So start with MTNL is not that great.. I told them that i need a wireless router with atleast 3 Ethernet ports..

Anyways, I cut the crap...So Lineman dropped the router and said someone will come tomorrow and will set it up.. I said WTF.. When would use my technical support executive skills.. 🙂DI was a TSE for a comnapny operating in UK called Tiscali)..

So i connected up everything.. and got the router up and running.. and ADSL was shining very nice.. so i called 1504 and got some information and VCI/VPI and that chap helped me configure it as well...

After 2-3 hours it worked..and working fine.. getting 150-160 kbps with torrent..

Now i have some questions..

1. I applied for 512 kbps(TriB UL data-512 combo) unlimited combo plan .. it says i have 1 Static IP.. what does it mean... Does it mean i really have a Static IP.. which i can use for webserver or something like that..

2. Which Wireless router should i opt for.. In case i want to get it changed with MTNL.. CC said i could do that..I need atleast 2 Ethernet ports.

3. I've heard over the time.. the speed decreases on MTNL.. like i am getting 150+ speed now.. My 2-3 friends had the same experience.. Is it correct ?

4. If i do have Static IP address.. then can someone guide me to a tutorial where i can learn to access my PC remotely.. I mean with Remotre desktop not with some PCanywhere or remote PC..

Thats it for now.. I hope to get some answers.. thanks.

if it says, then u should get a static ip, to check click IP Chicken - Whats my IP address? ip address lookup , and restart ur router/modem and again check ur IP... if its same on more than 3 occasions then u've got static ip..

as of ur speed, if should come-down automatically, it make take days or even months, so enjoy till then...

u can got for wireless routers from Netgear / Buffalo / Linksys - suit yourself....

1)are u getting 150 -160kbps or KBps?? if its KBps then u r getting good speeds, soon or later MTNL will downgrade u to 500kbps(60KBps)..Yes they provide Static IP's..But am not sure by default they would provide u since most people including myself prefer dynamic IP..So, ring the customer care and ask them for Static IP.2)I'm using the modem WA 3002 G1.Its is a wirelsss one and working fine(using it from last 6 months)3)If u r getting the right speed according to your plan..ie in your case u r getting more, so MTNL will obviously downgrade ur speeds.4)I have no idea about this..Maybe some other member will help you

You should be getting less than 64 kbps speeds
1. yes u can use it for a web server
2. im using wa3002g4 its a 4 port wireless router works fine
3. thats not my experience at least. right now im gettin 205 kbps on utorrent
4. you can use windows home server for this if u dont want putty ssh.

Thank you guys for your reply....

1. How do i get the static ip.. i havn't got it yet...is it good to have one.. i mean any speed problem or something...

2. Now since i've gone for MTNL one.. can i return it and get the rent deducted from next month...

3. Yar thats good if you have not faced this problem...Actually what happens s..when you get the MTNL connection by default they put you on 2048 link which is 2mbps... now since the MTNL/BSNL employees are very lazy they take a very long time to change that default profile to your opted one... and one fine day that profile changes to 256 kbps and you start getting that 256kbps speed.. i am telling you all because i know this is what happens. I worked in a call center where i was Tech support for UK ISP Tiscali.. and their default profile was 150kbps and customer always used to call. and we used to change their profile to their packages.. it takes seconds to to that...

and even at this point of time i am getting 150-200 speed..thats because i am on 2048 profile.. as soon as i go on 512 which i opted for .. will it still be the same ...

It may not be....i've seen it..my friend does not get the speed he used to get earlier.

4. Thanks for that...I will try if i get a new PC.. but as of now..i only have one pc and i want to perform this task.

1. call up cc n ask them to shift u to a static ip. no speed problems here.
2. i dont think it will be worth the hassle
3. yes u will be downgraded. ive seen they downgrade the download speeds immediately but upload speeds are not touched somehow. could be just a personal experience. maybe more ppl have seen it happen
4. ya well in winxp u wont be able to do it without someone sitting at the remote location i.e. back home

Thank you guys for your reply....
