Tata Sky to offer Hindi EPG to users

MUMBAI: Tata Sky, the direct-to-home joint venture between Tata Group and Star, has partnered with digital pay-TV service provider NDS to launch a Hindi electronic programme guide (EPG) for its users in India.

The new Hindi EPG will provide popular addition to Tata Sky’s product offering.


NDS Asia Pacific VP and GM Sue Taylor said, “We are delighted to be part of Tata Sky’s initiative of launching the first Hindi EPG in India. The launch of the Hindi EPG reconfirms NDS’ commitment and focus to provide innovative and customised digital pay-TV solutions, products and support to our customers in India.”

Tata Sky Ltd MD and CEO Vikram Kaushik said, “We are the first company in India to introduce this advanced technology that will give subscribers the flexibility to choose the language in which they want to view their daily TV programme listings at the press of a button. We are confident that it will attract viewers from all over India to the Tata Sky platform.”

NDS has been Tata Sky’s technology partner since its service launch in 2006 and has deployed its VideoGuard conditional access and MediaHighway middleware.

I am really not interested in it at all..........even if they come up with regional EPG's too i wont be happy as it makes the STB bit slow.........

I need Tamil Channel 😢@admin pls make this emotion🙂cry🙂 in basic frame, since I am a Tata Sky user I need this more. 😢

in each and evry post whether a new hindi channel has been added
or anything related to channels u ppl come up saying v need tamil channels

The 'pager' became immensely popular and was used by all artisans after regional lang capability was introduced; when it was taken over by the 'field class', middle level execs. stopped using the pager. Of course it was soon overrun by the mobile; introduction of local languages is also driver for the expansion of mobile market.One must remember that even the original pop channels MTV and V have become 'indipop'.If EPG is made available in all languages, the next phase of growth will start.

OT: The existing EPG is really starting to suck on TS, lots of incorrect entries which get updated at the last minute and still not always to the correct programs... :frown:

I dont care of the EPG being the North Indian.I use it rarely.

Most of the channels do not announce their correct program schedule and even change at the last minute. Unless the channels and TS have a direct computer linked system, EPG will not be accurate.

They would do better to provide an accurate and complete EPG, with the current state it might as well be in Greek for all the good it does.

Going regional is always good for any product and Hindi EPG is a good option & congrats to Tata Sky for being first in it.:thumb:
About EPG updation, I once seen that 1 cricket match played by India was getting delayed & re-scheduled due to rain& EPG was updated every 30 min with new match timings on the main sports channel (STAR SPORTS, but not sure) and on DD1 too

hey man v have more number of tamil channels to watch and they wont even care abt us and they keep on adding hindi channels and have useless channels(eg:nepal1) if they want to remove any channnel their next step would be removing any tamil channels they make us fools so only v ask for tamil channels
