You can boot into Knoppix, DSL or other knoppix based distro's just from the ISO, you wont even need to burn the ISO to a CD. Do post if you need some info on that[/b]

what?? which program botos os from a iso files . are u talking abt vmware or virtual pc ?????

btw still u need tooooooo much ram if u gonna use from vmware coz then it makes 2 os running 🙁

try and see Ubuntu Live Cd it roxx

Power, see this - http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/talk/node/191

It doesn't need vmware or any other emulator, all it does is load the linux kernel into memory, and give it the options to load the rest of the live CD. This is done through DOS, but it can be done without DOS/Win9x if you have LILO, GRUB or another boot loaded installed.

thx for info i always neede one such distro 🙂 that can run without burning on iso..

Well i got an old version of knoppix. does the new one support even reading of an NTFS drive. Because if thats true then i will convert all my drives except for the storage and the one with windows me into NTFS.

yes it can read ntfs drives but cannot modify it ( no write access) .. it depends on kernel u use latest one should read

It can WRITE to ntfs partitions as well! You just need to remount the partition with read/write permissions.btw, Linspire 5.0 is a cool LiveCD distro...

hmm risky .. like what coz i already wrote like 5 gb of data. the problem with Linux is some people do have a bad time with it adn then get scared of Linux. Just need to get that fear out..BTW Blue scrrenn stilll rulzz the fear compartment 😛

not really. its quite a known fact that linux can infact corrupt ntfs partition if something bad happens during the writing process.

[/quote]Risky in what way?
NTFS-write = Risky, is an 8 year old story which has been invalidated.
The only reason its not been classified as stable, is the fact that NTFS-writing could lead to parity errors on some ancient IDE controllers.
Now, considering that you would not even bother running Win2k/winXP on systems which are that old, its a total non-issue (except in business envirionments where you're still stuck with hundreds of desktops running the affected hardware).

Possibility of what? The chances of windows corrupting drives are higher than linux corrupting drives on that specific controller.Atleast the linux devs have the decency to declare that its not perfect. Whereas MS does not say that each of its desktop OS is nothing more than "works in progress".

hehehe are we tryin to have a MS Vx Linux here 🙄 For those who still think linux is some shitty think , plz just give a try to linspire adn ubuntu.I can give ya Ubuntu CD's for free after i get the shipment frm them 😀in total i ordered for 25 cd's 3 for mac adn 7 for AMD64 😕
