Automatic disconnection for NU Users

It seems that my connection drops just before start of NU free download period. And it come up after a few mins. Has anyone faced similar issue or I am seeing things....If they have started doing this then this is annoying. This could drop a VOIP call in middle.
 
For me, it happens at 11:53AM and at 7:53AM. I've stopped downloading but quite nice for the downloaders..though its a little annoying 2mornings in a row I was playing NFS:MW online and it happened.
 
As regards ur problem Yohu123 where u are getting disconnected some time at night, I've noticed something. Since i have my autumn break i've been keeping awake and have confirmed that since many ppl still don't switch their router on/off at the given time and hence end up with huge bills which they blame on MTNL, they've started disconnecting and reconnecting it for us from their end. Your connection will drop and reconnect within a few secs once between 12:21 and 12:23 am (which starts ur free night usage session) and again at 8:13 am (which is a lil funny coz it's beyond 8 am but it ends ur night usage session if u haven't already done so minimising the damage done to ppl not following instructions). So if u start ur night downloads before 12:23 and go off to sleep ur downloads will be interrupted although most clients resume after it reconnects but some don't. So start ur downloads at 12:30 now instead to avoid problems. Cheers!

Anybody noticed frequent disconnections during the daytime? Not that u have to reboot the router but every hour/90 min or so it disconnects and reconnects in a few secs. (am in Delhi) Dunno if they're doing it deliberately but it's quite annoying.
 
Actually, there is no reason for them to do it in the day time. But who knows how the MTNL/BSNL beauraucrats work! 😕
 
I have a sneaky feeling that it's a preventive measure to avoid what happened in mumbai with ppl downloading 24X7. Think it just authenticates and reconnects randomly to prevent misuse but it's quite irritating.

Well earlier I was forced to get up precisely at 7.45 am to switch off the router but these days with MTNL switching off themselves at 8 - 8.15 am, I just use shutdownpro to shut down my computer at 7.45 am so that I am not downloading anything in paid time.
 
LOL, i do the same. Schedule the comp to shutdown at 7:45am and let MTNL disconnect on it's own while i sleep. But today when i got up at 9 and checked the session history, found that there was no auto disconnect and i overshot the deadline but my comp was off......grrrrr...thankfully i only lost some 20MB or so of my limit. So don't coun't on MTNL doin it for u.

guys safest method u can use is the rasdial command with scheduled tasks combo

it really cuts out on time no depending on auto shutdowns 🙂

if u want more details let me know though this topic is well covered on the forum
 
A friend on my LUG Mailing list posted the following script to reboot the modem / router for MTNL Triband customers so that they dont exceed their quota and have a fresh login during the morning. This is an automated script and can / has to be used with CRON. Obviously, this is a Linux only script but may be the Windows geeks can figure out a Windows implementation for it?

Don't u have to use bridge-mode for that. Isn't there any solution so that we can continue to use the default router set-up.

@max - Yeah, that would be great. Hope our in-house techies can figure out a way.

A script to reboot the router for the default router setup (i.e. PPPOE) has already been posted in the past by ''nocaps". Here's the link to that post :

This was posted a while back (Aug 2005), and that's why you might have missed it, but this is one of the links in coolbuddy_79's pinned post about important MTNL links.

I have been using this script myself with no problems for the past few weeks.

Hey Mario, Thanks for the link. I did find the pinned post, but i had already posted by then. Tried it but having a problem. WindowsXP won't lemme create a scheduled task. Firstly it used to stop responding when i tried to use the add task wizard. Managed to fix that thru googling, but now when i create the task and click finish it gives an error "account info couldn't be added....access denied" Found a fix for that too but didn't work. I know this is a vague prob but it's known to happen on xp sys w/ sp2. Will try some other stuff. Can u gimme the name of a good third party scheduler which works with this setup. ThanksUpdate: Okay, managed to get the scheduler working. So far, it's working flawlessly. Gnite ppl 😀
 
if u know a bit of VB/Java Script, u can then probably use the sendkeys() function to first "TELNET" to ur rtr, thro ur username & pwd 2 d telnet screen & then send the "reboot" command. i am an avid scripter, so if u want d exact script...plz let me know.
