For example, If Tally could come out with a version that is easy to use by a normal person + handles accunting and  costing as per Indian laws and enables me to file my IT returns online (software + service model)

I would be willing to pay for such a software instead of paying mollah to CAs. For salaried people, this could add a lot of value.

Something similar to MS Money.

well put.. if only wishes were horses and the angels regularly visted us with bags of money .

Indian taxation laws are some of the most complex on earth. Have you had to fill up one as of late.?
Check out the saral form. Its a headache the types u dont want to look at .

Bottom line unlike abroad india is not ready when the it dept it self is stuck in the stone ages. Most govt depts cant get their normal billing right / accounting on computers right. You expect them to run with online tax payments.

I think ill take my chances with a firing squad

Have been going through the hoops for last 8 years 🙁 IMHO filling Saral is easy, all you have to do is to copy your Form 16 (TDS) into that form. Only trouble it for file that form and the long queue.

Ok, heres another example. We have a lot of Indians working in Microsoft. They are code monkeys! They are people who just write functions / modules based on specifications given by their bosses. What we need is, good managers, designers and ENGINEERS. It is only then we will have credible products 🙂
