Help with speeds

Aitel U/L 512kbps
My upload rate is faster than my download rate.
I have a 64kbps plan in which the upload seems to go upto 12 while the download sits quietly at 1 or 2. I tried capping the upload speed to see if there was any increase in the download speed. Initially theer was, but after that it was all the same.

What should I do??

That ME at the top! my results show me a download speed of 11328kbps....thats 1415 KBps !!! K'B'ps!!!!

WTF is going on???
 
sheesh, i tested it again, now it shows a more realistic d/l speed of 9.4kBps 🙁 ...and its recorded near the bottom of the same page....
 
wow! You are getting close to 80Kbps on your 64Kbps connection! I usually get only 6KBps 🙁
 
^^ Heh heh.. max, under TataIndicom, i get 80kbps instead of 64kbps.. i think everyone under TIndicom gets that. but thats no compensation for the exorbitant pricing!!Rs.880 for 64kbps unlimited???? *Expletive*.I badly want Airtel, but they arent providing in my area yet.. 🙁
 
haha! I pay 650 bucks for a sucky 64Kbps connection which works more like 48Kbps connection! So I guess 880 bucks for an 80Kbps connection is justifiable 😉 But are your ports blocked???

@uthfull: oops... BTW i got the same message, but on checking DUMeter, nothing seems to be happening/ i.e., no 'downloading'!@ max: no, i've checked, and no ports seem to be blocked..

so are there any other tweaks for ADSL??one more query...for ADSL... is the upload speed supposed to be > the downloading speed or is it the opposite???Also.... wat the hell is upstream n downstream bandwidth??(consider me a n0ob 😉 )
 
upstream and downstream are same as upload speed and download speed. In adsl upstream < downstream. It's generally 1/4th or 1/8th or the downstream. They reckon that you download much MORE than you upload so they give you less upstream and more downstream. More savings for them....

I had the 64k,128k and 256k scheme before I closed my airtel acct. In all 3, d/l's used to crawl during the day. Wasn't too happy with it. At night, the speeds used to recover somewhat but not sure if this problem has been rectified in bangalore or not. sushubh got airtel at around the same time but he never faced restricted bandwidth during this time.
 
well it does fall to around 15 but never really crawled. uploads have always been pretty good on airtel.
 
bugatti, may be its because bangalore has BPOs and stuff so the bandwidth is all clogged up!
 
i am also from bangalore with a 256 k plan....and experience slow downloads, as mentioned in other posts...i guess too many users of airtel in bangalore therefore it is always chocked. they need to upgrade their system in certain places. only once the broadband war heats up will we get our true moneys worth. it feels sad to be talking in Kbps when people around the world are into Mbps. i guess living in a third world country has some disadvantages.
