The below suggestion is referred by a friend (living abroad) who is using iPhone:

Friends.....those of you in India planning for iPhone... THINK TWICE BEFORE MAKING A DECISION... The short comings of iPhone are endless...

No video calling,

no AD2P on the Bluetooth,

CAN'T share ANY (mp3, images,videos....) files via bluetooth,

can't use as a wireless modem, (you pay ridiculous data charges to activate internet on your phone, but cannot connect it to your PC and browse when you are at home)

no copy and paste,(cannot copy a part of a.... say.... email & send it....have to type it out yourself)

no 3.2 or 5 megapixel camera,(the 2MP camera it carries is worst camera i've ever seen..... photos look like they have come out of a VGA camera)

no video recording with camera,

no front camera,

no flash.

no JAVA support

No physical keyboard (BELIEVE me! this alone is a dealbreaker...touch keyboard as good as it looks...once you use it then only you come to know about the importance of having a hard keypad)

No 3G network yet in India ..so why pay for expensive 3G phone if you cant use its 3G services ... so, for India , iPhone 2.0 is no better than its first version

No removable battery. (You cannot change battery. Have to send it to Apple outlet.. Come on now!!!!...This is not an iPod. Its a bloody phone. You cannot live without phone for 2-3 days)

No haptic feedback and

cannot send MMS,

can't use as external storage device (16 GB of utter waste..next time you go to your friend's house & find some interesting songs, movies, etc...sorry you cannot connect your '16 GB' phone and share it!!!! Apple apparently has a solution.. " BUY MUSIC & MOVIES FROM iTUNES STORE "..... Give me a break will you APPLE!!!)

no FM radio,

can't use your mp3 files as ringtones,(This is heights man!!!)

cannot insert any other SIM card….

completely tied to iTunes... Connect to your friend's iTunes & you risk erasing everything on your phone.

list goes on & on & on….

We Indians are used to these features. Most of our phones already have these features. & we cannot do with out them.... i mean can you imagine paying so much for a phone with which you cannot transfer files via bluetooth. what age is this ...STONE AGE???

Some features may be activated by jailbreak.. But why the hell should you risk losing your warranty after paying so much.

And want to add third party softwares??.. YOU HAVE TO BUY THEM FROM iTUNES STORE ONLY!!! . (Shell out more money). Apple is a bloody control freak. Dont surrender your freedom to it.

Its good for american market (who have no idea what mobile freedom/choice is) which is in stone age compared to asian/european markets. When they want to buy a phone, they have to go to network operators and buy only those phones that are available on that network. & stick to that company till their contract expires. You want to change carriers? Not before paying damages, & buying another phone on the other network again.

On the contrary, we in India have so much freedom. We go to handset shops & buy which ever phone we like. Then go to carriers.. checkout the plans & buy SIM.. Dont like the plan or rival carrier came up with a better plan???? EASY .. just remove & replace the SIM.

Apple are trying to IMPOSE THEIR MODEL ON US riding on the hype iPhone has created in the US (yes it was a flop in Europe .thats why Apple never talks about its sales in Europe ).

Dont fall for the subsidized price of iPhone... CHECKOUT THE DATA PLAN ATTACHED TO ITS SIM ..they will recover the cost through ridiculous data plans. Bill might come to around Rs 2500/month.(ATLEAST AMERICANS PAY THAT MUCH)

Let me clear one thing though.. iphone is the best looking phone (its touch interface is nothing like you have ever seen ), & best browsing experience out there no doubt .... (& others are fast catching up..check out the android demo at Google IO 2008).... BUT AFTER A FEW DAYS IT ALL COMES DOWN TO FUNCTIONALITY...

Those of who buy it... You will be most happy for atmost a week... & then, MARK MY WORDS...YOU WILL START REGRETTING IT!!!

My advice...WAIT FOR HTC DREAM!! (powered by android). Still not convinced by then...by all means go for iPhone...

So friends lets spread this info to all our friends and help them in making a wise decision..... & those of you who have bought unlocked versions already please share your experiences with others

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.... GOODLUCK!!!

Nice collection, we all of the points have already been read on the internet by iPhone Users.

Now

No video calling,
You can't anyways on Indian Networks

no AD2P on the Bluetooth,
But there are other solutions available for that.

CAN'T share ANY (mp3, images,videos....) files via bluetooth,
I am sure it will be done as we have the SDK . so someone will definitely think about enhancement of these missing features with apps.

can't use as a wireless modem, (you pay ridiculous data charges to activate internet on your phone, but cannot connect it to your PC and browse when you are at home)
Again would you like to use it on GPRS here.

no copy and paste,(cannot copy a part of a.... say.... email & send it....have to type it out yourself)
I guess Steve Jobs said it will be wroking. I don't know your friend might have got a faulty unit.:hysterical:

no 3.2 or 5 megapixel camera,(the 2MP camera it carries is worst camera i've ever seen..... photos look like they have come out of a VGA camera)
It costs man... the main motto of Apple since iPhone's first launch has been to reduce the price.

no video recording with camera,
Where are you life is calling man.. People are recording videos from their iPhone.

no front camera,
Come on.. do you even use the first one.

no flash.
Yes here is a miss.. but kucch har kar jeetne wale ko hi baazigar kehte hain..🙂 I mean battery life.

no JAVA support
You mean games?

No physical keyboard (BELIEVE me! this alone is a dealbreaker...touch keyboard as good as it looks...once you use it then only you come to know about the importance of having a hard keypad)
Ha ha .. you need 3.5" screen as well as a standard keyboard also...:ashamed:

No 3G network yet in India ..so why pay for expensive 3G phone if you cant use its 3G services ... so, for India , iPhone 2.0 is no better than its first version
Ya but i guess it will be available in near future..and moreover GPS works in India..

No removable battery. (You cannot change battery. Have to send it to apple outlet.. Come on now!!!!...This is not an iPod. Its a bloody phone. You cannot live without phone for 2-3 days)
Dude why do you need to change it.. If it is working fine..And one more thing.. Is there anyone..I mean anyone who would say their iPd's battery is not good enough. So its the same technology they have used in iPhone.

No haptic feedback and

cannot send MMS,
Ya i guess they knew that this time it will be launched in India so to demote MMS scandals in India they have not included this feature.:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

can't use as external storage device (16 GB of utter waste..next time you go to your friend's house & find some interesting songs, movies, etc...sorry you cannot connect your '16 GB' phone and share it!!!! Apple apparently has a solution.. " BUY MUSIC & MOVIES FROM iTUNES STORE "..... Give me a break will you APPLE!!!)
Well.. I personally don't have iPhone that can be validated by someone. But as far as i understand it should be same as iPod which works as mass storage anywhere i plug it.

no FM radio,
Hmmmm...welll....Lets just not discuss it...This phone is not designed for Indian Market i guess..

can't use your mp3 files as ringtones,(This is heights man!!!)
You seriously need to use google man..😢

cannot insert any other SIM card….
completely tied to iTunes... Connect to your friend's iTunes & you risk erasing everything on your phone.
No there are ways for that also...when you do that let me know i will tell you how can you manage 2 or more apple handheld devices.

Well thats it folks... took me around 15 mins to answer all his queries.

yea there are few drawbacks, but i would like to make a list of the features which i would really miss. Like if it doesn't have a flash and java, then i wouldn't care anyways coz i am not much interested in browsing over cell.Features i would miss,RadioIf cam quality sucks like VGA as posted above, then its bad for me.Video recording (It can be handy sometimes)

I honestly don't intend to get into a iPhone fanboy vs. iPhone hater argument, so please read the following in that spirit.

[*]What other solutions are there that compensate for a lack of A2DP?
[*]I am sure that sharing mp3s will never get done because Apple is inherently all about selling on iTunes and super anti-piracy. They have never let you share with any of their products before, and probably will not anytime in the near future.
[*]IIRC iPods do not come up as mass storage devices. You have to have iTunes installed. In addition, even if you have iTunes, you can download music from your iPhone/iPod to your computer. (But there may be some software that allows you to do so unauthorized).
[*]The iPhone does not have copy paste. Their official stance is that it's something that is very low priority for them and they may look at it sometime in the future some day.
[*]No JAVA support means not only that you can't play games, but you can't install some other JAVA based software. (For e.g. I have this program on my phone called Days to Days or something like that, that allows me to calculate the number of days between two dates, or calculate which date would it be after a certain number of days etc.)
[*]A standard keyboard by far beats the iPhone touchscreen keypad anyday. And the iPhone isn't alone in this. All touchscreen phones suffer from this. They are inaccurate, inefficient (more keypresses for symbols) and requires a lot of correction. And of course you end up smudging your screen.
[*]3G is not coming to India in the near future. So the 3G feature is useless. We have been hearing about 3G for a number of years on this forum alone, and like it is perpetually in India, it's always '2-3 months mein aa jaayga.'
[*]Why do you need to change a battery?!?! I can't believe you would argue this one, but since you did, here are three solid reasons:
1) You are a heavy user and/or a frequent traveller and keep one or more spare batteries charged for replacement in case your main battery dies.
2) Batteries die. They have a limited life. And when you have to change them, a user-replacable battery (e.g. all other major brands) will always be cheaper. Apple on the other hand is notorious for super-overcharging for batteries. They will take $120 to change essentially a $15 battery. In fact, when your iPod battery dies (it's not even a "if your battery dies" it's "when it dies") the response you will get from Apple is that it's a better option to buy a new device!! (They offered my friend a 10 pound (Rs. 850) discount for exchanging her 1 year old iPod classic!! - Rs. 850. That's called looting your customer). So user-replacable batteries are cheaper.
3) When your battery dies, in case of phones with user-replacable batteries, all it takes is a trip to your local cell-phone store to replace it and be up-and-running again. This whole transaction would take you a few mintues or let's be generous and say an hour. With the iPhone, it will take you at least a few days to get back your phone with the new battery!! And I think you will get your phone back with all the user-data and programs erased. Enjoy.
[*]MMS, Video calls is pretty much unavailable / unused in India, so we shouldn't even talk about these.
[*]Your photos show that while the picture quality seems good (definitely waaaaaaay better than my Nokia), I am not sure what you are trying to show. To me, it seems that the old iPhone picture is sliiiiightly better than the iPhone 3G.
