Hi,I am moving to Gurgaon fm USA and want the Rs.999 Unlimited Airtel plan. I was told that for home-connections, Airtel only provides a DSL-USB Modem. Now, my need is to have a DSL-Modem with Ethernet ("LAN") connection. Can anyone help me out by telling if Airtel Customer Service- will entertain request for a DSL-Ethernet Modem......or they always give a DSL-USB Modem. Also, is a DSL-Ethernet modem available easily in the market in Delhi -and if so, how much would it cost. Thanks and hope someone is available to contribute replies! Cheers!-Ash

D-Link-502T is a good ADSL ethernet modem. Dunno if it will be compatible with Airtel's infrastructure. Anyway, my friend lives in Gurgaon and he too has Airtel. They did provide him with a DSL Ethernet router on his request. No extra charges. Infact he has changed from USB to Ethernet and back again several number of times and they have always obliged.

Thanks Max, appreciate yr prompt reply!

Maybe their Customer Service must be more helpful than the "Sales Rep". The Sales Rep was very emphatic about not giving the DSL-Ethernet modem. Maybe I can get the DSL-USB modem fm Airtel and then get an exchange! Thanks and have a nice weekend!

I like this forum and will continue to post my experience upon arrival in G'gaon! Cheers!

Ashvon, hi welcome to this cool forum 🙂As for ur query, i just got airtel's connection in gurgaon last month. I'm on the same plan as wat ur thinking of getting.Wat i got was a BEETEL 220BX from Airtel itself, which is a good modem all in all. It supports both ethernet and usb which can be easily configured in the modem settings 😉Infact i have used the modem's connections simultaneously, USB for my pc n ethernet for my PS2Just make sure u get all the cables when the airtel guys comes to install your connection.Payment options for the modem :You can pay Rs500 upfront as security which is non refundable and the mothly rental for it is allready included in the total rental=Rs999Or, you can buy it for Rs.2000I hope that covers it all 😀

Thanks WiZard! (looks like, we are "cyber-neighbours" here and then in Ggaon! )Well that solves my problem....If only, I can get the same modem BEETEL 220BX, it will be great! 😛 U too have a great weekend ahead!

Airtel does give the ethernet modem. Just demand that one is the only one you'll accept, and they give it - had no problems from that angle, at all.I was given the beetel (Yozan) WebDistributor II - LAN modem.

Airtel provides both ethernet /usb modems ,you also have the option to request a change anytime but both are non router ones.If you are ready to pay Rs 100 extra/PM then you can opt for D-Link 502T Router.I was provided with YOZAN web distributer II ethernet modem ,and has no problems with it till now.

I also have the ethernet modem same model as described above.I did ask for a D-Link router but was told there is a security payment of Rs.1000 with it.You can either pay Rs.100/month for the Yozan or get the D-Link here for Rs.1800.Some one had posted that u can configure the Yozan in bridging mode instead of the standard firewalled mode. The port forward settings etc are not so great am an not sure whether it works that well. If you want to run servers of any description then you will need to set it up in bridged mode. Of course the Airtel guy will tell you they dont support it etc and thats only for the more expensive business plan etc, but ppl here on the 128kunlimted (prior name for Home 999) have set it up sucessfully.I am in two minds whether to go in for a D-Link myself. Thing is if i change ISPs in the future the modem is useless but then if Airtel behaves themselves i might not need to.

Well its strange they never said any thing like this to me ,they had always been helpfull and wud allow me to use thier connection in any way i like. When i had P2P port forwarding problem they themselves suggested the bridged method, and explained me to set this up over phone (the central CC care representative)and later they had send their engineer not once but thrice cos i always messed it up and also cos I wanted same bridged mode in all my OSs(Wn Xp sp2 MCE 2005,linus suse 10 ,Xandross bussiness 3.0) of my multiboot system.

That's fantastic service, i think all would agree. When the guy told me that i showed him the instructions on this board, i think he had a few more clients to hook up that day and was tired 😉

I don't know if they are giving any other modem than the bettle one in gurgaon 😕 strange tat u guys got choice of modem and i didn't (i.e D-Link n Bettel n others)

D-Link option is only for those who are ready to shall out extra(monthly and upfront) for router or wireless router modem. But yes they have set of these cheap modems(YOZAN,Beetel, zexel) which you can choose from and get changed any time based on availability and based on specific problems one is having.

the D-Link option aint for those who are ready to shell out more money. infact all modems weigh same for them (ZyXEL, beetel, dlink, yozan) in case you want a specific one you gotta tell them first. it works like this, or thats what they claim atleast.....they are given modems enuf for that days' new connections. if youre anyone other than the last guy, you can choose from any modem or modem/router device, if they have a choiceyou could wish you were lucky or call'em up and tell them straight. also all modems are compliant with aitrel, including the Huawei ones. i tested smartax100 and my friend tested 882, tried it with the splitters from bsnl and it works like a charm again
