These are a lot of questions man. Pls go thru BSNL website for complete tarrif plans which include d/l and u/l limits and additional charges for exceeding the limit(charges depend on the plan taken usually 1.2Rs). As for the rest, here are answers...Minimum hire period is 3 months. There is security deposit for some plans and none for others(ref website).U can get the connection by filling a form either online or at ur nearest BSNL exchange.Usually installation period is 3-4 days.Speed/tarrif plan depends on the kind of surfer u are. If u prefer normal surfing go for Rs250 plan. For heavy downloading go for other plans as they include night unlimited.U can pay either monthly or a complete annual payment(this option saves a lot of money but hire period is 1 yr) that is included in ur phone bill. Additional charges for exceeding the limit will be included in ur phone bill.

Thanks for ur reply i know there r many questions but i can get proper reply from the person who is using this service then it will be satisfactory to my point of view.anyways...

I have a modem of D-Link installed which i use for my dial-up conn.I have lan onboard.I have got a bsnl landline service. What else i required to get i.e. any software/hardware for my new broadband connection of BSNL ?
The broadbandservices like ICENET provides broadband thru cable wiring what's the difference between
this n of BSNL.Which is better pls compare if u have answer.
Thanks.

A dialup modem is different from ADSL modem. You can either purchase one of ur own or get one frm BSNL for Rs 1200(or on rent basis). No other software/hardware required. ADSL conn is different from cable conn. Though both require LAN card(ADSL can also operate on USB) ADSL also requires landline phone.

FIRST OF ALL GO TO
http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/dataone.htm
read the basic info
THEN go to
http://www.bsnl.co.in/faq/faqans.php?paramCategory=Broadband
Read all the q&a
that will answer most of ur q's
ALSO go to
http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/dataone_tariff.htm
read the tariff

Generally it will take 1 week to create ur account online
but for installation it will take 1-2 Weeks.. (depends on the exchange)

If u use internet for e-mail chatting with not much downloads(music, movies, softwares) then PLAN 250 is ok..

If u want to use more and download more, then PLAN 500 or more is better (2-8 am unlimited)

If u want to use and check the speed and other things.. go for rental modem or else purchase from bsnl

ALSO COMPARE WITH OTHER ISP AND CHOOSE BETTER ONE...
go to other ISP forums here and decide...

ALso check my posts

From which software we come to know abt the usage of  connection.

There are a variety of software that will monitor your total bandwidth usage.
One of the most popular is called DUMETER. This is shareware and hence needs to be purchased.

Personally, i use a freeware called Down2Home. You can get it at http://jitserv.coolfreepage.com/

Its lightweight and doesnt take too many system resources while running.
But beware, that most software have some differences in the amount of data that they report as transferred vs the amount of data that the ISP (here BSNL) claims that you have transferred.
In my case its about 10% difference (BSNL says normally 5%-10% more), but i'm not much of a heavy downloader so it doesn;t concern me.

BSNL's page at http://dataone.in >click on account administration at bottom of page will also give you the stats. But they force you to use IE!.

Hope this helps.

** Is it preferable to take the modem on rental basis or to purchase it ? [/b]

Dont take modem on rent. BSNL charges Non refundable Rs. 500 to take Modem on Rent and Rs 100 P/M as rent.

While Rs. 1200 for Outright purchase of modem.

So just compare.
