For the time being, Government is fighting with the technology. Radio is very common more than print. And, cheaper to start and run. And, Radio is very local. Hence, they can not control what news is being designated. Tomorrow, We can have a Taliban FM (In Pakistan, they had this and the army of Pakistan could not trace this radio station for years...), Kashmir FM, Mullah FM etc.
I am not sure how much of this is feasible with the onset of technology in future. For the time being, Government is fighting this and blocking this.
Recently, Government is thinking of allowing limited access to current affairs on FM radios. But, the proposal has not taken any concrete action.
Very good
🙂
I suppose the same laws would apply to worldspace as well, no talk shows or current affairs ?
Well just because a radio station is playing the best of Indian and International
music back to back with very few interruptions does not mean that it is a pirate station.
Would you say the mix is 50-50 or more indian or international ?
That would be key, If the indian content dominated then sure there is no issue as it would considerably cheaper.
Wonder if they have some wierd laws in India as in other non-english speaking countries like France or Canada where its mandatory to play a certain % of domestic music.
give their own artists a fighting chance against those more successful anglo-saxons
😀
And secondly, you think govt would miss such a good oppurtunity to sue a private FM station that was actually a pirate one ? (As per you)
My point was if they play more intl than domestic then maybe they belong to some MNC or such with deep pockets. They are not all by themselves.
I don't think its possible yet for foreign radio stations to setup in India even with a doemstic ownership of 26%.
