Excitel has been wiring up several areas in my city (stuck here due to Covid-19).
And their banners have come up in streets next to mine. Their website mentions
Mangalore as being covered.

Got their pamphlet today advertising standard plans of 100/ 200 and 300 mbps plans
for 1/3/6/9/12 months.

There have been quite a few horror stories about Excitel in other cities.
I already have an airtel VDSL connection as a main driver along with a local
cable FTTH connection (50Mbps - 200 GB per month) as a backup.

Both connections have had excellent up-times. The only hitch with my LCO FTTH
connection is that there is a data cap on the connection. No issues with airtel as
such apart from it being VDSL and upload speeds are a little slower.

Would you recommend a switch over to excitel? Especially the 100mbps plans?

Only way to know is use it for few months. You can pause your local ftth connection for few months and try excitel.

Pay monthly for a few months. That's the best advice with excitel. If you see that lco is good and support is good only then go for longer plans. Check monthly pricing on the website. Add tax. Excitel has been very deceptive with actual pricing. Try to get the non wifi router if you have your own wireless hardware. And do remember that Excitel is best for peered services. International speeds would vary widely from one server to another. Torrents are a hit and miss. Downloads should be fine mostly. Seeding would be hard.

Keep Airtel as backup. Use Excitel as primary. Download the shit on it.

Most p2p sites are blocked so you would need to use a workaround to access them. A lot of other sites like streamable are also blocked now on Excitel.

There is no way in hell I would give up airtel!

I have had that connection here since November 2008 and it has hardly had any
downtime in the last 13 years at my mom's place.

I need a reliable net connection for my work which involves financial transactions -
similar to what your Dad does.

I don't seed many torrents, but do download a few from public trackers. So that shouldn't
be an issue. I have already paused my local FTTH connection for the past few months,
but it has been rock solid apart from the 200Gb cap. The LCO lives next door to my apartment
so they are always at hand in case of any issues.

I know of an acquaintance who pinged that he has a 300Mbps connection from Excitel.
It has issues while browsing ocassionally, with speeds dropping down to zero.
Something which would be problematic for my work.

I already have a spare DIR-825 so would be only getting the G/EPON unit if I do
consider an Excitel connection.

I require uptime with lower latency than speeds. Excitel might have issues with that.

My monthly usage won't cross 1 TB across both connections. The 200 Gb cap on my
existing connection is ridiculous in today's day and age, but Jio and others are taking
their own sweet time to come over in my area. Even airtel isn't upgrading to FTTH. 🙁

I would rather use my connection without keeping track of usage.
