Reliance Jio will be deploying two next generation cables to support the growing demand for data in India. The project will be completed in partnership with several global players and SubCom, a world leader in undersea cable supply.

The two cable projects, India-Asia-Xpress (IAX) and India-Europe-Xpress (IEX) will connect India to Singapore, and India to the Middle East and Europe. India will be connected to Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia in the east and will land in Italy after connecting with countries like Egypt, Djibouti and Saudi Arabia in the west. The two cable systems will interconnect and be connected to the important global data interexchange points.

The company said,
"IAX and IEX will enhance the ability for consumer and enterprise users to access content and cloud services in and out of India."

"For the first time in the history of fiber optic submarine telecommunications, these systems place India at the center of the international network map, recognizing India’s increased importance, staggering growth and the quantum shift in data use since the launch of Jio services in 2016," a statement read.

The two cable systems will be running over 16,000 km and will be providing high-capacity and high-speed capacity to the region. The IEX and IAX are expected to provide more than 200Tbps of capacity

IAX is expected to be ready for service mid 2023, while IEX will be ready for service in early 2024.

For people who are knowledgeable about this- Can we expect any latency improvements with newer cables or is this just adding capacity?
 
I doubt there will be much improvements... latency can't be magically reduced given the vast distances the data has to physically travel.

What these new cables should improve is the bandwidth capacity (better download speeds) at least to the nearby locations like middle East , Singapore Malaysia and maybe Europe too.

From the new cables, You can only expect more bandwidth availability due to upcoming 5G and growing B/W requirements.

From what I understand, We can expect much more bandwidth on present plans in coming years. May be 500Mbps under 1k!

Does this report says about international bandwidth available with each isp or as in general?
 
@Lucifer96 I guess majority of them just buy International with TATA unless they have their own cables which only Airtel and Jio have. So the agreement for bandwith with Tata is what they have.

Is there any data regarding how much international bandwidth capacity is available with tata , airtel and jio ?
 
@swatkats these are transits of tier 1 isps right, so what about the local isps who buys transit from tata /airtel , for international, national transits , does the info regarding how much bandwidth these isps brought from tata/airtel is available to the public or to the trai?

No. It's the overall bandwidth owned by operators reported to TRAI.
Looking at the public data available, I could easily say 50-60% of the India's bandwidth is being utilized by Jio.

Jio has recently started rolling out plans to Business customers and its 50% cheap compared to competition. They should also concentrate on Mass roll out of Tier 2 services to ISP's (However it is unlikely!)
