I am currently set on this:

There are a couple of issues though. No Duplex. No ADF (not required). And limited support for printing from Mac and iOS. Also no display.

I don't want to get HP this time around. Epson I can think about. Probably would still go for Brother. Just looking for suggestions on models to check out before I place the order.

Update: Ended up buying the 520!

4.5 k.. Since we don't have much printing needs right now, Postponing the replacement. Brother is also Sensitive to the Quality of Ink used..

I suppose it would still be cheaper than getting a new printer every second year which is what's happening with me 🤢

Of-course.. If you can manage to print 1 or 2 pages every alternate days at-least, then Ink Tank is a very good choice.. We also have an Epson L 220 Ink Tank in the family, that has taken a lot of beating and still going good. Except it resurrects with Advanced Cleaning every now and then.. This one's been in service for over 5 years now.

Inkjets are just fancy little toys that have a shelf life of 1-2 years mostly. They are built to a cost.

Got the printer today. All well so far. Connecting to wireless took some time. Brother app is of course shit. Mopria is again recommended. Printer is silent though there is a lot of jerky noise when paper is pushed out while printing. But very different from HPs I have owned which makes kachak kachak sound after and before every operation. One incredible thing compared to HP smart printers is how fast it starts. HP probably loads their machines with a proper OS which takes a lot of time to start. This one is ready to print within 2-3 seconds. There is no visual indicator that wi-fi has been connected from what I noticed. My Brother Laser has a illuminated button that blinks while connecting and lights up when connected. Something like that would have been helpful. Would see if I am missing something. Overall looks like a good purchase and hopefully this would last for many years!

Does either of the models have duplex printing?

Trying to wrap my head around so many models, dimensions and deciding if I should get my existing printer repaired or just get a new one.

These models seem fine, except for the fact that they are going to take more space than the existing HP 3454 I have. Will have to sit with an inch tape now.

520 is not very tall. 820 would be taller coz adf.

But yeah 3454 was quite compact. 520 probably is an inch taller.

Looks like 4cm difference.

Just bought a Brother MFC-T920DW printer and compared to HP (which I still hate for their expensive ink/parts even with ink-tank ones), Brother has miserably failed to deliver to my expectations:

1. Scan resolution through Windows Scan and Fax is hard-limited to 300DPI (there's no driver to increase the limit). If you try to install custom driver packs, scanning fails to even start. Brother app is crap, it takes 10 clicks to get one page scanned. Brother support just has no answer except to using their APP.

2. Being an office-oriented printer, the many physical buttons just fail to help. Copying is 4 buttons deep, scanning multiple pages via the panel is such a big headache I have just reinstalled my old HP 3835 for scanning purposes. Front panel is absolutely useless in terms of UI. A 2.5" touch-screen on my old HP 3835 works better and quicker.

3. EACH and every thing you do requires their app at one step or another. With so many apps, it becomes a security nightmare (reference to 3CX scandal)
4. Mobile app has a hard limit on scanning to 300DPI also. Duplex printing from smartphones is not an easy tax either.

Prints are fine, not that good for the price you pay. Sharpness is lacking even in text-only prints. Print time is fast that's the only thing you can say.

I so regret not buying the HP Ink Tank 790 for 26k. I paid 24k for this piece of crap.
