In September 2020, I got connection for Jio Fiber with INR 699 plan. I have been using it mostly for WFH which worked like charm but since December 2020 I am facing issues that the VPN connection to my office keep dropping in ~2minutes, making it difficult for me to continue with Jio Fiber.
I have tried with Mobile Hotspot and telephone line connection that I have and the connection remains stable for hours despite the slow speed but they do not drop the connection as Jio Fiber does.

Intermittently and rarely, December onwards, it happens that the connection remains stable for 1-2 hour straight.

Their executives have visited several times but they do not seem to have any knowledge and keep blaming my org for this when clearly it is not the case. Along with this they also tell that they have several customers complaining that connection dropping for many others doing WFH.

I want to know whether Jio Fiber working smoothly for you or facing the similar issue? Is there any fix anybody has tried out for this issue?

People on other connections have reported changing the MTU value of the router helps in getting the connection stable . You might want to try that if your router allows it . I am not sure if changing MTU is allowed in JioFiber . Waiting for someone to clarify . Does your VPN client have MTU value ? Do note that I have not used the connection personally

As such the VPN client from my org does not have any option to set the MTU other than what is default set. Though, in the client I can see that the default MTU for WiFi interface is 1500 and 1384 for utun[0|1|2] it is 1380, 2000, and 1384

I personally used Jio Fiber for 4 months from mid Oct to mid Jan'21 and no issues at all over VPN.

My org uses Pulse Secure - if that helps

Hi @mgforce, my org uses the F5 edge client and I also didn't see the issue from Sept-2020 till Mid December-2020 but now it disconnection is unbearable.

@Oppili I tried your suggestion and lowered the MTU to 1400 and I still see the disconnect. I will update more after observing on the Work-day

Hey F5 VPN has issues on Jio network incl. JioFiber and Jio MiFi. Don't ask me how I know this info or why. But you can test with other ISP and F5 VPN should work without issues.

If you don't have an option to switch to another ISP, then try the below steps to see if it helps.

Android - Connect your phone to Wi-Fi (Jio router via Wi-Fi) and then share the WiFi connections using a data cable to your laptop (Mobile hotspot/USB tethering option) and then connect to VPN. You can try normal (split tunnel) or Full tunnel if your company offers that option on F5 VPN client.

Hi @VaGhan Thank you for your inputs. I did test it with other ISPs (BSNL, ADSL connection) and Mobile Hotspot and it works flawlessly.

I am surprised why the F5 Edge client would create trouble on Jio? Is it the Jio Network solely to blame?

I have complained to Jio several times and they can barely understand the issue and keep blaming the VPN. This makes it even more difficult, the original issue gets buried by the Jio customer care and then blame game starts.
One of the technician even asked me to provide logs from the company side which I believe no company would provide to the external agency.

Thanks!

[Update]
For past 15 days, the connection is stable and I do not see any drops, even for longer durations connections are stable.
Though, I have to follow up a lot over the emails and their customer care provides very silly suggestions and do not fix the issues, if it is a serious one.

Thank you all for your suggestions!

I will seek your suggestions soon on other issue I am facing 😉.

Yes, after facing issue for a month looks like Jio connection is stable and face issue sometimes but for hours only.
But due to this I have got one more connection from BSNL as backup.

Was just surfing when I came across this thread. Am on BSNL FTTH and my Org uses Cisco AnyConnect VPN for WFH. I face extreme slowness during day time (not disconnection) almost every day. But when connected to the mobile hotspot (Jio or Airtel) it works fine. I guess there's some issue in BSNL's routing to Cisco's headend routers but they never replied whenever I approached so have to just live with it. 🙂
