Smartphone battery drain on Nokia 2425G router

Hello All,

I have installed Airtel Xstream broadband 3 months back and was provided a Nokia ONT 2425G. The range of the router is great compared to my previous TP-Link (single band Wifi) router. However I am facing a weird issue which I have managed to locate in only one other thread here. Any smartphone connected to the router via Wifi has a faster battery drain compared to say my previous router, any other wifi router or though mobile data (4G LTE mode).

I have tried switching bands (2.4G & 5G), changed channels, and also noticed that this affects the other 2 smartphones currently being used. On my Smartphone(Realme X2 Pro) I can see a Wifi component on the battery usage parameters which has some usage to it (2-8 % on average for 24 hours).

Has anyone faced the same issue and managed to resolve it? Ready to work out all parameters before contacting Airtel (who in all probability won't have a clue).
Thanks

the only solution is to get the Nokia replaced with a Huawei router or get a separate wifi router and use the nokia as a dumb ONT

So I tried some settings and the battery drain, though not completely eliminated, has reduced a lot. Change the bandwidth frequency for the wifi (2.4 GHz) to 20 MHz. I have switched off 5 GHz anyway.

Try this if anyone is facing the same issue and report if it helped.

Well, it is too early for me to say, since I have got this connection on Friday itself. Nevertheless, I have also faced a similar higher battery discharge like you. I will need to observe it for some more time before I can conclude anything concrete.
Device is Poco X3.

Don't know... The only reason coming to my mind is that 5g uses more battery than 2.4g. But then this would be visible across all devices, everyone would be complaining. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

Same battery drain issue is with Nokia G-140W ont.
At first I thought its the phone issue but then realised that ONT is the culprit. Tried TP-Link and there was no excess drain at all.

Airtel as usual refused to accept the issue and said this is how wifi works

Nokia routers are provided but customer can ask for ONT + mesh solution. Ont will still be nokia and mesh can be of Linksys or Huawei. Comtact local engineer for further details on cost.

they also provide 4x4 wifi ONT on gigabit plan but it depends on local tech teams if they are willing to provide it else they will refuse it saying no such thing exists

I think its enabled by default. No option to change it. Though its useless. Cpu is unable to handle load of multiple clients. If someone is uploading something then ping spikes to 100-200ms and download speed reduces with request timeouts
