Smartphone battery drain on Nokia 2425G router

I have also tested switching off the 5GHz and the battery drain was still there. I now use the Nokia ONT only for LAN connections (2.4 and 5 GHz disabled) and have connected my old TP-Link (only 2.4 GHz) into one of the LAN ports (DHCP disabled). No more battery drain on any phones connected with Wifi.

So the culprit is the Nokia 2425G router. I am ok with the current set-up until I change to a better router in which case I will have the PPPoE connection on the new router and use the 2425 only as an ONT.

I have also done this but when the Nokia ONT reboots after power cut, the internet on the older router connected through the LAN do not work. I have to unplug and then plug the LAN cable again in the router, then only internet works in the older router. Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

@Fibrous I have connected LAN cable in LAN4 port of Nokia ONT and in WAN port of 2nd router. Where should I assign static IP in the Nokia ONT or in the 2nd router?

@sanketkashyap the static IP is generally configured in the 2nd router that is plugged into LAN4 port of the Nokia. It's best you call 121 for technical assistance and exact settings.

So you are using a Lan to WAN connection (2 subnets). There is no Static IP required in this case and you can keep the DHCP enabled on both routers. However you are also on double NAT which may affect online gaming. Overall it will not affect other uses.

For the issue you mentioned about not being able to access internet from the 2nd router after the Nokia ONT reboots, try rebooting the 2nd router after the Nokia has completed its boot up. This should solve the issue.

did you guys by any chance enabled guest SSID on your airtel router before this issue appeared? can you please try disabling main ssid and enable secondary ssid on both 2.4 and 5ghz bands through admin interface and test if the issue disappeared.

i have two hypothesis for the issue.

first: it might be possible that the engineers decided to tweak the power saving wifi mode in the router to increase performace either through a firmware update or through remote management setting that caused this issue.

second: i feel like ever since I've enabled the guest wifi on my Nokia router for a couple of times, this issue started happening to me as well. before that everything was fine. can you guys recall doing anything similar.

I've to report this to NOC team so i need help from you guys. thanks

@f3rmion I assume you are speaking about the battery drain issue. No, I have never switched on or even visited the area for the guest Wifi on the Nokia ONT. Weirdly though, I recently bought a TP-Link Archer C6 V3 and using it as the main router (with the Nokia in bridge mode), and I am facing the same battery drain on Wifi as the Nokia.

The return period is over and unfortunately there is only a snapshot available for the C6V3 on the Open WRT forums - hence I cannot change the firmware yet. I have no clue why it is draining Smartphone battery on the Wifi. The previous TP Link WR841N was an old router with only 2.4 GHz, but had no such issue.

@Aashish.007 Sounds like a workout. Guess I will wait for the stable release on Open WRT. It might be a good 2-3 months i think before it is released.

How is your experience after carrying out the procedure? Any issues?
