Can a Custom ROM like AOSP(Android Open source Project) on a old phone give Wifi calling functionality on a 3G phone. The ROM will have the option to enable Wifi calling . Can it be enabled ? The phone is Redmi 1s though . Thinking of flashing a AOSP ROM and giving it a try.
VoWifi if i'm not mistaken, works with close integration with VoLTE and is essentially a chipset derived functionality rather than a purely software feature. I don't think you would be able to get it working on a entirely non-4G device.
I guess if the service provider Airtel, Vi & Jio want they can do it through their customised apps..... Remember Jio Call would enable call on non-VoLTE handsets... And in their early version Jio4GVoice, it used to work on WiFi.
Whatever... in early version of Jio4GVoice... we could make & receive call, even when the signal was zero, through WiFi..... So we were achieving the same....
Vi as of now is only testing vowifi and that too only in very limited locations and only on few Oppo phones as of now.
Vowifi is a combination where Operator & Manufacturer and hardware & OS software meet together to make it work.

If you talking about that, that is a completely different technology. That is purely a VOIP rather than a Wifi calling and that wouldn't work on a 3G device as Jio checks the IMEI number of the device before configuring the service and to be honest you won't even get the 4G signal of Jio on a non 4G phone.
Airtel, Vi doesn't offer any similar option. The only option which would work is BSNL Wings number but the money you would spend on it is rather a waste compared to getting a new phone.
