Dear Customer,
In these strange and difficult times, the use of digital payments has risen exponentially. Unfortunately, so has the incidence of cyber fraud linked to such payments. Many of you have been at the receiving end of this as well which is why we at Airtel have been working relentlessly to ensure that it does not happen to you.

To this end, I am delighted to introduce an industry first feature - SAFE PAY - this is the safest way to pay online. SAFE PAY will provide an additional layer of security so that every time any money is to be debited from your account, you will immediately get an alert. And the money will leave your account only once you have given your approval.

Safe Pay will be available to all of you with Airtel Payments Bank accounts. The Airtel Payments Bank account has a maximum balance limit of INR 1 lakh, which makes it a perfect secondary account for everyday transactions. You can link any UPI app to your Airtel Payments Bank account as well, to ensure that there is zero exposure to your primary bank account. If you already have an Airtel Payments Bank account linked to your Airtel mobile number, click here to enable Safe Pay on Thanks app.

In order to open Airtel Payments Bank account, you can walk into any of our stores. Or you can open your account online from the safety of your home. Click here to get started.

As I said, we at Airtel will do everything we can to ensure that you have a safe and hassle-free digital banking experience. And, as always, we would love to hear from you on any further suggestions you may have for us.

Stay safe. Stay well.

I can't figure out what makes this different from the other players. Sort of like a wallet right?

the only thing the message say in addition to how upi works is that the app would ask for approval. upi does not really have any such feature. you enter your pin and money is gone. i don't think airtel can add an additional layer over it.

i don't have airtel payments bank account so cannot check what additional are they offering.

but they are claiming exactly that. even after entering upi pin, there is an additional approval that is required at your end.

On that note does anyone know of a payment method which masks personal information? Every one is asking for UPI these days and with UPI, your full name is shared to the merchant or you can easily look up who the upi address belongs to. I'm looking for some kind of wallet that is either stand alone or linked to just a phone number and no other information.

rbi has made that impossible me thinks. but i am sure something out there exists. 😁

cash is really the most private payment option these days.

But then the upi confirmation and pin entry happens first on the airtel payments bank app only no?

It's really irritating these days. If you have a unique name like Jayawickramasinghe Mannadiyar and you only go by Jay everywhere, it really puts you in a bind. Before the whole KYC thing, Paytm used to work just fine. Sigh.

But then the upi confirmation and pin entry happens first on the airtel payments bank app only no?
based on screenshot it seems that you can pay using any upi app but payment won't go through till you give a second level of approval through the airtel's own app that should show you the message.
